Re: Call Out to Press & Music Industry to Give More Attention to Positive Spending

We are routinely seeing a great deal of press being given to rappers and musicians who go into strip clubs “making it rain” with bricks of money upon strippers. This sort of thing gets a great deal of press while we're trying to do outreach to our communities about the potential dangers not just in the sex industry – but even strip clubs for customers.

Drake has reported to have dropped $50,000 in a strip club – and even supposedly $8,000 in the parking lot of one. Fabulous has reportedly dropped $28,000 while Ludacris has dropped $10,000 at one pop. Chris Brown - $15,000. Akon - $50,000. While photos of Bieber and a stripper went viral.

The message the media is sending young women is clear – be a stripper and you make lots of cash and meet rich and famous men. The message to young men is also clear – you want to be cool? Throw your money around a strip club like it's dirt.

What does not seem to get at least equal press however is when Kevin Hart donates $25,000 to four students, Pharrell Williams donates $50,000, and Usher donated $100,000 at the UNCF Evening of the Stars to support positive goals held a few months ago. It was like a “blip” in comparison.

What also doesn't seem to get equal attention is when bad things happen at strip clubs also – like when the news leaked out that a strip club in New Jersey was actually owned by DEA agents. The dancers were illegal aliens – probably so they wouldn't report on the activities they were seeing go down in this club (no pun intended here). At the Crazy Horse II in Las Vegas – a man was paralyzed for life over an $80 bar tab dispute. Reports were that customers were being given GHB, the date rape drug, then their credit cards maxed out. When they would complain – they'd be bodily thrown out of the club.

When we told reporter Bob Herbert, who used to have an opt-ed for the NY Times, that you could “throw a rock and hit a trafficking victim” in a Las Vegas strip club he tested our claim for himself. He reported he found one at the first club he entered within 15 minutes. In response to the validation – then mayor Oscar Goodman didn't swear to address the problem. Instead he threatened Bob with a “baseball bat to the head if he ever sets foot back in Las Vegas again”.

Our hotline has been receiving a record number of calls about trafficking in strip clubs and massage parlors now that internet sites for escorts are being cracked down on. We're also receiving a record spike in the number of calls we're getting from customers who are being ripped off inside the clubs.

So we're calling upon you, the media, to please try and give positive contributions as much, if not more, attention to the way money is being spent positively by the rap community and music industry. It will make our job of warning these young women about the dangers inside these clubs a little easier.

Now I've seen everything!  I read how one state has now made law to post the National Trafficking Hotline number on the inside of ABORTION CLINICS?!  Clearly these law makers don't know how trafficking works.  If you are the victim of a trafficker - he is NOT going to get an abortion for you.  For one thing, pregnant prostitutes "sell" and sell big.  So do lactating women.  Anyone knows that a pregnant prostitute also makes more money than a non-pregnant prostitute does.  Why would they cut their money?

Also, traffickers ROUTINELY knock up their victims as soon as they possibly can.  Why?  So they can't run.  If she tries to run and leave her captor - all he has to do is trot down to the FBI and threaten her with a federal kidnapping case if she doesn't come back home or report in.  To a trafficker - a pregnant victim is desired.  She's also less likely to run, and her "johns" will tip her even more money because of the baby.  A pregnant trafficking victim is a gold mine to these people.  Also, if they really want rid of the baby - then there's the "fake adoption scam" they get to pull.  These guys have had as many as five parents on the hook at the same time over one baby they're offering to sell for an adoption.

Worst case scenerio - they can get anywhere from $25,000 to $100,00 to sell the baby outright.  If by some weird chance they do want an abortion for their victims - they have doctors "on call" who do this without creating medical records.  Every trafficker I've ever known as a "resident doctor".  One who prescribes the pills, does their STD check-ups, and gives them birth control - all for free in "trade" or off the books.  Not a licensed abortion clinic.  But then I ask myself - was I advising these guys before they passed this stupid law?  Nope.  I then went to www.votesmart.org to see what's what with respect to sex trafficking, or even sex industry, legislation.  There was NOTHING. They didn't even have the category.

One problem with being ahead of one's time is always having to create something.  So - our newsletter is now going to cover all of the legisation going on right now AND get each politicians' view on sex trafficking and the sex industry "on the record".  If you'd like to volunteer to help me with this project - please get in touch.

Re: Sex Trafficking Victim Movement

Dear Mr. Hunter:

Are you aware of how this movement got started? I read that your “biggest challenge was getting people to believe” that domestic sex trafficking is real. I shared that challenge by myself many years ago. I say that because prior to 1980 I'm sure you remember that no one in this country believed that domestic (American) sex trafficking was in fact “real” in any way, shape or form. You were probably raised as I was that “white slavery” was extinct.

During the 1970's our society had celebrated the book “The Happy Hooker” all the way to the NY Best Sellers' list. In this book Xaviera Hollander described having sex with a German Shepherd. The public liked the book so much – they made a movie out of it and she became a Hollywood celebrity.

It was also during this time period that adult XXX movies were not played in homes nor in main stream theaters. To see them you had to go to “special” adult theaters. To avoid “obscenity” laws these movies had to be called “art” films. For that reason they used to have to be produced on film and were therefore costly. The producers wanted to make more money off their investment than they could off some men who were willing to come to these “adult” theaters – so they came up with the idea of making a movie that would be shown in “mainstream” theaters. This movie was “Deep Throat” with Linda Lovelace as the star.

When this movie came out to main stream theaters it was received even better than when the movie “Titanic” opened. People were literally lined up down two blocks to see the movie – and couples made it an “evening out”. My own parents got a baby sitter for me (I was born in 1960), so they could have an “adult evening” out with two other couples. It was the “in” and “hip” thing to do that year.

So when Linda Lovelace was the first person to ever get onto a media stage and announce that she had been forced to film that movie with a gun pointed at her and threats from her pimp about killing her mother if she didn't comply – she was not well received by the American public. To “prove” her case she would tell people to go back and look at her legs in the movie, especially the bath tub scene, where her legs were covered in bruises from her pimp's cowboy boots kicking her to make her do the scenes.

Despite her bruises being very visible in the film - her reception was about the same as if one got up today and announced they'd been abducted by aliens. No one believed her. Audiences “booed” her off the stage. No one validated her story because her pimp had gone onto manage “Marilyn Chambers”. The porn industry wanted to keep making adult movies which was now playing in mainstream theaters and pornographers were now making millions – so no one was going to risk that gravy train by coming forward to validate her story. She even released a book about it called “Ordeal” in 1980.; But even despite her coming forward to announce that “trafficking was real” in the porn industry – she still didn't do what I did in 1987.

When I was arrested in 1984 – the media dubbed me the “High Tech Madam”. Why? Because when they arrested me they found undercover surveillance cameras in a brothel I had opened two blocks from the Van Nuys police station, and a computer that I'd programmed as a “reverse directory” long before the internet existed, cell phones, or even home computers for that matter.

The reason for all this technology, and my placing this brothel so close to the police station, was because trafficking was rampant in the country at this time – Los Angeles especially. There were five highly publicized serial killers targeting prostitutes back then in the news. The Hillside Strangler, Southside Slayer, the Green River Killer, and others. Two pimps who were cousins had started kidnapping prostitutes, beating them, torturing them, raping them, and then forcing them to stay in hotel rooms while they made money off sending “johns” in to see them for sex. They'd come back to beat them some more, take the money, and then brainwash them into being too afraid to leave their captivity. The victims who survived then said they were literally too terrified of these men to even try the door to see if it was unlocked.

One of these victims escaped after being stabbed 52 times and called me for a ride to the ER because an ambulance wouldn't pick up a “prostitute”. The hospital refused to admit her at first because she was a “prostitute” and therefore a “criminal”. After finally agreeing to stitch her up – they refused to admit her because no nurse would touch this “filthy prostitute”. When she was well enough for me to take her to the Hillside Strangler Task Force (which was these two pimps) to tell them what happened to her, and these guys' name, address, phone number, etc. and to warn them they said they would strike again – we were thrown out of their offices. When I pushed as to why – they said “because we can't get a warrant on the word of a whore”. It was a whole other year before they arrested them – right where we had been telling them all along they were.

I also witnessed the Iran Contra scandal first hand. That's where our CIA was smuggling cocaine into this country to raise cash to buy guns for the Contras. They flooded Hollywood parties with the drugs using “madams” like myself so that it would appear “glamorous” and thus be sold in huge quantities. They also wanted movies made about it to increase “demand”. You may not remember this – but back in the 1980's psychiatrists and doctors would appear on national TV and proclaim that “cocaine was not addictive” and “natural” to further promote consumption. It was not until the gangs in Los Angeles they had suckered into being their “beards” started using the drug and mixing it with heroin was the “crack” epidemic born. These CIA men used to use prostitutes to “sweeten” deals and to ensure no one was an undercover police officer.

We were also negotiating with oil men back then. Oil men who liked American women. So madams like myself back then were also offered $25,000 a shot to make women without family's “disappear” onto diplomatic planes never to be heard from again. Again, I know because I tried to stop one of these planes carrying a friend of mine on it. When I told the police she didn't want to be on that plane and to try and stop it from taking off – they laughed and told me that this country would be “better off with one less whore in it” and refused to do anything.

I witnessed sex trafficking on a small scale of the corner pimp to the grand scale of our own CIA using women as “treats” to seal oil deals as well as blackmailing politicians to gain cooperation. I myself couldn't prosecute my own traffickers because I knew I would (1) not be believed if I did talk and (2) that I'd never make it alive to court to testify if I did. I was branded a “criminal” by society when arrested – and that leverage pushed me into silence about domestic sex trafficking. Because my traffickers were afraid I'd “talk” anyway – I had more than one murder attempt against me even when I was in custody by these people. It was only through smart negotiations between my lawyer and these men that I was able to walk away with my life in exchange for assuring them I would not “talk”.

So when “God” told me to start the program of Sex Workers Anonymous (back then it was called Prostitutes Anonymous) I listened. I knew that the only way however we'd save these victims would be to change the American culture and the whole legal system of this country because no one was going to “help” us while they viewed us as “whores” and “criminals” and “deviants”. Nor while police were refusing to respond to my 911 calls for help because they believed that all prostitutes “wanted” to be beaten and kidnapped for sexual pleasure as was the general consensus at the time of cops.

But with God there is always a “way” if there's a “will”. There were no programs for adults back then because again we were viewed strictly as criminals – and not as victims. In fact, prostitution was called a “victim-less crime” back then just to show you how things used to be back when I started our work. So I created the first hot-line ever for us in 1987. I also created our program of “Sex Workers Anonymous” (originally called “Prostitutes Anonymous”) in 1987 to refer our callers to for help.

But I had “perfect timing” in God's world because the HIV epidemic was just hitting the sex industry back in the late 1980's. The guards in the jails did not want to be working with “us” because of the health risk. So for the first time ever – the county of Los Angeles was willing to hear me out because they suddenly didn't want “us” in their jails either right then.

The media had still been calling HIV the “gay plague” - but I knew better. I was the one who drug the CDC and UCLA into doing research within the sex industry to prove to them almost 80 percent of prostitutes were positive for HIV back then and therefore a “health hazard” could be declared. The then Mayor Tom Bradley and Sheriff Block came to me when I said we were victims needing help and not criminals needing incarceration – and gave me the resources to start the first ever “alternative sentencing program” as well as “residential program” for us because no one wanted to take us in – not the jails, not the treatment centers, not the domestic violence shelters, etc. out of fear of the HIV virus.

This allowed me to train the first outreach team into the sex industry to get HIV information and testing out to them, as well as “exit” information on how to quit via our program. We partnered with every HIV testing site. Because when a prostitute is told he or she is HIV positive – now they're out of work. Bam! How is the rent going to be paid? A whole system had to be set up for the sex worker who was found positive through our outreach program. They needed housing, medical care, medications, food, and retraining for another vocation. We set up the first “vocational rehabilitation” programs for sex workers back then in the late 1980's. Many wanted to be counselors or social workers – so we set up the first program through the “Addictions Studies” program headed up by James Crossen, PhD to train counselors how to work with “us”. This included scholarships the school offered select students.

One of those students was a woman who had been in porn previously. Her name was Sharon Mitchell and she wanted to become a doctor so she could help sex workers. When she got her medical degree and license – she set up the AIM Clinic that tested solely those in the porn industry. Up until a few years ago she was the exclusive testing site for those in the porn industry. The reason is because they felt “safe” with their doctor having also been in porn in the past herself. She single handed stopped more than one HIV outbreak within the porn industry while AIM was operating.

When news of our work spread – I got a call from Allentown, Pennsylvania. They wanted to convert their system over also from criminalizing these victims to offering them help. I needed to test whether or not the program I'd developed would really work, and be something others could duplicate. So I quit my job, left my family, and went back to Allentown to set up the first “Program for Female Offenders”. It was quite successful. So much so that they were able to delay the building of a new jail until a whole year after our program shut down after I relocated back to California when I got pregnant.

But all these programs had to have “public” support. Which is why I started doing every talk show, TV show, morning show, drive time show, tabloid TV, etc. to raise awareness that some of us were in fact “victims” who were being forced to engage in the sex industry and therefore we needed help to not only free these victims – but also to provide them with “rescue and restore” services and programs.

Even I wasn't believed at first when I came on stage with these outrageous claims about our government even being involved in wide scale trafficking, or nightclubs having pimps lined up against the walls and turning out women in relay teams on bets who could “turn them out” in the fastest time. I too was “boo'd” off the stage and told that “we don't believe you”. So I used my news clippings for one thing to prove I had in fact been in the highest levels of the sex industry to thus “see it all”.

Still I wasn't being believed. The accusations came of “oh you're just trying to sell a book” - so I didn't. I did not come out with my memoirs despite being offered six figures at one point. Then it was “oh she's just trying to make a movie” with my claims. So I turned down all the movies studios that offered me contracts – over 10 movies studios. I then showed off my turned down offers of publishing and movie deals – and what could be my motivation then?

STILL I was not being believed until Joe Conforte, the owner of the Mustang Ranch Brothel at the time, decided he wanted to legalize prostitution in California so he could expand his brothels. He put up a $1,000,000 into a PR firm to get his wish. Then he bought fake studies from UC Berkeley to make claims that “no brothel prostitute had HIV”. No one would dare oppose the man and his claims that there was no such thing as “trafficking” and that all of his women were “protected” from such things happening as I was claiming. He would then bring on three and four women singing the praises of “consensual sex between adults” and a “womans's right to use her body as she wishes” to appeal to the feminists in the audiences. Of course they tried to attack me personally to discredit my claims.

So I came onto the stage with members of our program to also tell their story – including one pimp we'd helped to get clean and recover. We stuck to our own personal stories and provided “proof” these were not false claims. We refused to make a movie or sell a book or charge a dime for our appearances so no one would claim we were looking for anything but getting the “truth out” to the public. We brought on more people we'd rescued who talked about how no one even believed them before we came along – let alone rescued them and helped them heal.

That worked. Especially when Joe offered me $120,000 a year to “come out retirement” to manage the Mustang Ranch with a $100,000 sign on bonus. I was on welfare at the time having just left my husband – so when the world saw me turn that down to live on a welfare check – that's when we turned a corner in this movement in 1989. That's when Joe's bid to have prostitution legalized was voted down – because people started believing us that prostitution was NOT a “victimless crime” anymore.

We couldn't get claims of “trafficking” against Joe for what he had been doing because the brothels are legal in Nevada. So I remembered how they got Al Capone and “dropped a dime” on Joe with the IRS. That eventually led to him being chased out of the country to escape incarceration himself.

Then we had people like John Quinones from ABC, Geraldo, Rosanne, and Bob Herbert from the NY Times physically come to see me, check out our work, and make glowing reports back to the world about me and our work. John even devoted a chapter to us in his book “Heroes Among Us”. Of course the public and the traffickers and the sex industry tore me apart trying to find something they could use to discredit what we were saying – but they couldn't. Finally the American public believed.

To make sure our program was as effective as possible because we didn't have any mentors or role models to work from when I created the first program for adults in this country I have studied every program I've heard about with respect to those helping these male and female victims of trafficking that came out as we were growing.

I've also let others research us. One researcher, Sharon Oselin, a professor at USC, just completed a study of the three top programs in this country that help trafficking victims. In each case, the women counted “Prostitutes Anonymous” (our original name) as the reason why “this” time their recovery clicked in for them when it hadn't before. I also have testimonials from our members up in their words at www.blogtalkradio.com/stopsextrafficktalk

The trafficking within our system and the sex workers rights and advocates groups are desperately trying to change back what we've started. So as the opportunists entered the field seeing all the money I had been turning down and wanting that for themselves – this is when the “fakes” started entering into the arena about 2009 – and they've been pounced upon by the sex workers rights groups and advocates in a desperate attempt to try and claim trafficking doesn't exist at all again. I even saw a movie yesterday by Woody Allen trying to bring back the “glamorization” of the sex worker called “Fading Gigolo”. The reason why the “fakes” started appearing in 2009 is because for the first time in 2008 our federal government was now issuing federal grants to set up programs to work with trafficking victims.

So all those people who aligned themselves with the people I had tried to warn them about with the Samoly Mam's and the Chong Kim's and even that completely bogus story that Bill Hillel was putting out that inspired “Taken” - are now beginning to see why I've been stressing so hard that “credibility” is everything. I say that not only standing here in 2014 and never having had any scandal like this coming at me for “fraud” about any of my story, or taking money for said false stories, but also because I watched how the “satanic panic” was created to dismiss the legitimate stories of ritual abuse survivors. Which worries me.

Now if a person tells a police officer he was a victim of “satanic abuse” he is automatically lumped in with the looneybin crowd. Which is what is going to happen very shortly with this trafficking movement if it's advocates don't start aligning themselves with people who can withstand harsh scrutiny and even “set ups”. I bring that up because I also watched how starting in 2009 a lot of people, including myself, were approached by many people offering us money to make false claims

about trafficking. I refused. Each one of the others who didn't have been brought to light as fakes and cons – just as again Chong and Samoly were exposed.

I myself have been offered large sums of money to make false claims about trafficking – which I've also refused. But I'm still standing here. My tapes of my story don't change over the years either as one hears when listening to people such as Shelley Lubben or Annie Lombert. Two women who also have “shilled” for fraudulent money raising schemes in connection with setting up “safe houses” and “outreach”. It's not just some survivors or “rescuers” either being exposed as “fraudulent”. Melissa Farley's reports have been attacked and are being re-reviewed, as well as complaints made against her license even for her outrageous statements.

Now I applaud individual survivors of domestic trafficking who stand up and confirm for the public they were in fact “trafficked”. But I also know first hand that when one does that – you often come home to being evicted, fired, losing friends, and even threatened. After I've made public appearances about my story – I've had a bomb put in our outreach RV, my brand new outreach car totally demolished, my daughter was run over by an SUV in broad daylight breaking her back, she was sexually assaulted, I've received more than one death threat, and I've had to move so many times I'm not living in an RV permanently. While you may applaud these speakers for speaking out – other people are not so supportive when these survivors go back to their daily lives.

Look in the 1980's and 1990's – it was important to have more than one “survivor” speaking out that trafficking is real. But right now it's not only been done – but these sex workers' rights groups and advocates have now started targeting and attacking them. I've heard stories of threats, conspiracies, being stalked, evicted, etc. These attacks on survivors now by the sex workers' rights people are not unlike the stories one hears about that some fanatics are doing to attack abortion doctors and chase them out of the field. Because that's their goal – to silence the trafficking survivors from speaking. Which is why I don't think one should be having “new” survivors speaking out in this field publicly unless they've been fully advised prior about the risks they're about to undertake. I'm hearing too often from them that they had no idea they would be targeted and attacked in such a manner for speaking out – but by then it's too late and the damage is being done. But frankly it's why you're now seeing a survivor maybe speak out once or twice – and then disappear into obscurity again.

Besides, most individual survivors have not seen the wide variety of stories I've seen. I've witnessed not only the pimp standing on the corner with his “bottom bitch” on his arm, but I've also seen trafficking done by the highest levels of our government. I've witnessed how the Triad brings women into this country promising them jobs at nail salons in the USA – and once they're here they're shuttled over to the massage parlors right next door and then their families back home in China are being threatened if they don't cooperate. I've personally witnessed how the Russian mob has been dominating the strip club industry and how they've been connecting the strip clubs, porn and prostitution all together with the massage parlors in areas that are being “policed” by biker gangs that are straight out of some horror movie. I know because when the victims are brought into “safe houses” these guy are showing up with guns and the shelters workers are completely unprepared for this – having no choice but to surrender these victims back to them. Or course keeping it all out of the papers because they don't want the “donors” to hear they couldn't protect these women.

I've also witnessed the long term effects – and some effects most haven't bargained for with respect to this movement. For example, you increase the penalties against the traffickers and you will wind up with a lot more dead victims. Why? Because if they get more scared than they are now about doing long stretches of “time” in prison – they'll just kill the victim, hack them up, and sell the organs on the black market. A few phone calls and a person's body can go for $25,000 when pieced out for organs. That's how pimps are disposing of many victims right now in this country so the bodies are never found – and they're never prosecuted.

If you criminalize demand – guess what? You are now allowing a new crime to grow and expand that I've been hearing about more and more the last couple of years. That of a whole new high-tech modern form of “john rolling”. These men are walking into corner friendly neighborhood massage parlors thinking they're going to get a $20 table shower, or into a small little strip club thinking they're going to get a $10 lap dance – and they are walking out with their lives destroyed.

Rick Rizzolo, who used to own the Crazy Horse strip club used to drug his patrons with GHB. Then he'd max out their credit cards for $1,000's of dollars. The bouncers would then take these men back to their cars and dump them. If the customer would “wake up” half way through this new type of robbery – they would be beaten and threatened. One man was beaten so badly he is now paralyzed for life and Rick keep finding ways to avoid paying his fine for that crime to pay for his medical care. When they'd get home and realized their cards had been maxed out and go to complain – they'd be further threatened about what would happen to their careers or their marriages if word got out about what “happened at the club”. That's when pictures they've taken of these men in compromising positions are then sent to them on their phones or computers they have taken of them while drugged or passed out.

The massage parlors are even worse because many pay for their visits with credit cards. Some will even use their insurance to pay for the massage – which gives them access to the “johns” social security number, drivers license number, etc. I know of one ring connected with the Triad where the massage parlor owner relays the information on the john to her sister who is a licensed real estate agent. She then pulls the man's credit to know where he lives, works, and what credit cards he has as well as what money he has in the bank. Then the hackers begin on the guys bank accounts, credit cards, and even lines of equity. One john told me they took $50,000 off his American Express before he'd even gotten home from the massage parlor. When they've gone back to threaten to file charges if the money is not returned – they are then threatening the men with “exposing” why they were there in the first place and ruining their careers and marriages.

Now if you “criminalize” demand – you will only be giving people like this more leverage to stop the victims to come forward to press charges. So too will you stop their witnesses from coming forward to validate their charges if they're worried about what will happen to them if they try and help them prosecute. I know because that's exactly what they tell me – gee I'd like to help her prosecute for what happened but I'm not willing to lose my career, family, status, friends, etc. by having them find out how I saw this woman in the process. Which is even 10 times worse if the prostitute is a male.

Besides, for the “johns” it's sexual addiction pure and simple. Sexaholics Anonymous is full of these men who literally can't stop themselves. Any “john” programs I've researched and they'd told me about that don't refer them to SA for help and simply try to get them exert “will power” - are about as effective as prohibition was at stopping the alcoholic from drinking.

Which is why prostitutes, sex workers, and trafficking victims need to be in Sex Workers Anonymous. I've stood by and already seen the previous programs prove that you can get them off drugs, and teach them a trade – and they will still go back to the sex industry – maybe even their very same traffickers – unless the core issues are addressed among other survivors from an “emphatic” point of view. Much how Alcoholics Anonymous was the first program to ever be successful at truly stopping alcoholics from drinking themselves literally to death.

The “johns” need to be referred to Sexaholics Anonymous. It's the only program I've ever seen actually take a man who has been buying sex since his teens in almost every case, and then actually putting them into remission. These men are sick and have a disease. Education doesn't stop a disease from progressing – and neither does fear.

I've watched how badly thought out projects to try and “force” things within the sex industry just back-fire. I remember when we thought that maybe we could get the johns to start wanting “safe sex” and would stop hounding us prostitutes not to use condoms if we got the porn industry to start showing “safe sex” in porn. The industry agreed to shoot these scenes – but then the johns/customers revolted. We had a HUGE backlash of buyers demanding on “amateur” porn using massive amounts of body fluids without any protection whatsoever. Now back in the 80's when this happened – it was mostly married couples who started producing the “amateur gonzo” adult movies to fulfill the backlashed demand for this type of “non” safe sex films. Because this was before the internet and because almost all porn was produced within Los Angeles county back then – we were able to get a “handle” on those people doing it. We also were able to talk to the porn industry about “easing up” on the “safe sex” in adult movies – and thus get performers back on licensed sets with permits so we could make sure everyone was getting tested. By having porn performers voluntarily getting tested by Dr. Mitchell, an ex-porn star herself turned doctor – the was more than one HIV outreach within the industry thwarted.

However, AIM was shut down after corruption took over. This scattered testing back into the sites where workers didn't want to suffer that type of embarrassment just to get free testing done. Then California started REQUIRING condoms to be used on porn sets. They didn't listen to letters I wrote explaining this would just make the outbreak we're seeing now get worse and spread because most performers now travel a “circuit” for one thing now because of the internet. Also, porn models used to just do porn back in the 1980's. Now the porn models do porn, stripping, webcaming selling of products, and even run up to the legal brothels on the weekends to see “regulars”. I've even seen porn models now licensing their images to have stickers put on skateboards. I mean a “sex worker” today is truly a small multi-national corporation these days. They are not the image of the “prostitute” that you and I remember from our youth. I'm aware of this change within the industry because our hot-line still rings every day from someone wanting help that they can't go to the police for because of one reason or another.

But I assure you that if you continue to move towards criminalizing the johns, or if you stiffen penalties against the traffickers even harder, or if these “round ups” where women are told to choose between jail and some “classes” where the classes aren't even designed around their needs (do you have any idea how many of these “classes” being used right now by the courts as “alternative sentencing” are not designed for the women who have ADD and dyslexia or who are illiterate – and then they're being told if they don't “pass” they'll still be thrown into jail?? I've spoken to some of the teachers in this “classes” and they do not have classes where they have special teachers nor has the programs been adapted for those with learning disabilities. Which out of our program I'd say 80 percent of our members, including myself, suffer from. If I had not have a tutor when I was in computer school to

help me through it with my ADD and dyslexia – I would have flunked also and probably still wouldn't have gotten a decent job. Yet none of these classes are teaching them about “self-employment” either.

Look our hot-line has answered over 500,000 calls to date. Polaris has answered 70,000. We founded our program in 1987. Polaris founded their program in 2002. I assure you our program is the oldest, largest, survivor led, effective program that has stood the test of time and attacks. My recovery is stable so no one is going to find ramblings from me on my twitter about “flushing my drugs and booze” down the toilet that I've been on for five years while trying to advocate and speak for trafficking victims as was the case recently with Shelley Lubben.

Any campaigns I'm associated with and a part of are going to be well thought out also. I say that because I watched how AHF put porn stars who had contracted HIV onto the press using their “porn names” when they made the announcement. Anyone who understands the sex industry will know that this is just going to make the buyers “curious” and go out and buyer their tapes! Sure enough I checked with some production companies and found that each time they did this – sales went up 30 % of their porn products! I would have advocated them to come out “anonymously” so this wouldn't have happened if I'd been on any advisory committee of that project.

So hopefully I've relayed some of my hard won experience in this field to you Mr. Hunter. I hope it will help to advise you on any future decisions with respect to what you're doing to do with respect to the trafficking movement. When Bill Wilson founded Alcoholics Anonymous – he knew the need to offer such “advisory” services. This is why both he and Marty Fox founded the National Council on Alcoholism for that purpose – to separate out his ability to advise on alcohol issues and alcoholism from the program that was providing recovery to the addict.

For this reason, I created the American Trafficking Institute. So if ATI or Sex Workers Anonymous, can be any resource at all to you in the future, please don't hesitate to call upon me. I also am the “creator” of this modern trafficking movement. Which means I do know how to start a movement – and I can also help steer this better hopefully all the way home to where all those who want to leave the industry can leave, and also so the “johns” don't wind being victims as well of either the traffickers or the legal system.

There's a saying of “we're all just sick people trying to get well – not bad people who need to go to jail”. I think that fits here for most of “us”. Thank you for your time in listening to me talk about what I feel this movement needs right now. If I can help at all – please keep me in mind.

Thank you.

Subject: Re: Thank you for Providing Letter

I first of all want to thank you for emailing me to include me. I started Sex Workers Anonymous in 1987. We are worldwide now.

Because of the calls I was getting from Nevada victims of trafficking who are unable to get help from the "system" here, and because I was unable to get the cooperation from people in the "system" that normally help me with trafficking cases in all other states but Nevada, I moved here in 1996.

There is a difference between someone who wants to quit the sex industry, and needs support vs. a trafficking victim who needs help to escape their situation, and find recovery from their ordeal. I used to get maybe one or two calls a year in 1987 when we started from trafficking victims. By 1996, I was getting 20 calls a year from just Nevada. By 2007, I was getting 300 calls a year from trafficking victims in Nevada alone. I have been unable to get any help with these cases from groups like ATLAS that received over $870,000 for that year to help victims. I even have emails to prove that Terri Miller was refusing to help us on cases I've saved despite the fact she spent all that money on things that had no direct impact on victims here whatsoever.

This is why we broke off and formed Trafficking and Prostitution Services in 2007 - because I can't do some things "officially" under the traditions that guide the operation of a 12 step program. But the calls are still coming in more and more every years from trafficking victims in Nevada to us.

Now we have the Southern Nevada Sex Trafficking Task Force that's also received another $870,000 in money to help victims - yet I can't get a phone call or email returned from them despite me trying to access them to see if we can get help with the still rising number of calls we're getting from victims right here in Nevada almost every day now. I even have an email from Metro officers such as Karen Hughes telling us to "take her off our email list". I have Nevada's Assembyman, John Hambrick, who is writing bills for Nevada's trafficking victims, has repeatedly refused to meet with me, appear on our radio show, and now he's even denying meeting one of our members, and a Nevada trafficking survivor, who came to the legislature on Monday to speak about her experiences first hand and to deliver our letter of experiences and suggestions on behalf of trafficking in Nevada.

I appreciate the offer - but I don't have any way to get from Vegas to Carson City. I don't have airfare and I don't know anyone that will pay to send me up there. Our victim/survivor who lives in Carson City is very very "fragile". She's only been able to find our group recently. We've tried for years to get the Nevada courts, and the Mental Health Dept. that she went through for her first two years of recovery - to provide prostitutes and trafficking victims with referrals to our programs, which are proven effective for decades now with this target community to no avail. She was desperate enough to go on the internet recently to find us because they were unable to help her heal from her experiences. While she was surprisingly strong enough to appear on victims' behalf on Monday - I have no idea if she'd be strong enough to appear again. She also doesn't have the years of experience of working with the 1,000's of Nevada victims now that I have either that can be spoken about at this hearing.

I can ask her to attend - but there's no guarantee. I also don't know anyone that would arrange to get me up there. Greyhound doesn't even go up there anymore from Vegas from what I understand. We used to have victims come down to me on the Greyhound - but then they cancelled their routes from one end of the state to the other.

I've already asked our Assemblyman, John Hambrick, for assistance to get up there in the past and he's refused to help me get up there. Despite all the fund raisers that have been held to help trafficking victims in the state of Nevada - I haven't received one dime of assistance from any of these efforts and I'm out of work due to being on SSI disability from a stroke I suffered because of the stress of this work is what my doctor's told me.

I've even received death threats, as well as a few other types of threats, and I've suffered through some extreme acts of intimidation and retaliation for my work in this area from uniformed Metro Officers, judges, friends of brothel owners, brothel owners, traffickers, etc. When there were hearings up there a few years ago on the subject of brothels being allowed to pay sales tax of some sort - I had a uniformed police officer, a local business owner, and two other unidentied men show up at my home with a moving truck "informing" me that I was going to leave Nevada state entirely by sundown "or else". The illegal "eviction" order was signed by a local judge in Nevada. Having to escape this event - I was unable to attend that hearing and I'm sure the date of it was scheduled so that I would not appear at that hearing. So I'm not even sure if I would feel comfortable coming in and out of such hearings without having security arranged for me beforehand. When I gave the press conference I did on Trafficking in Nevada in 2007 - I had security arranged for me beforehand by Melissa Farley. This however didn't stop someone from completely demolishing my car back at my house shortly after this press conference - despite me living in a gated security guarded community with even security patrols on the premises 24/7.

Is there a way I can be involved via webcam? I have a webcam and I can link up your proceedings to me in a multiple connection or conference call using either Google Plus or Skype Messenger Plus. I would feel a lot safer this way also.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide on this matter.

Dear Ms. Williams:

Thank you for providing your detailed letter about sex trafficking and the difficulties of escaping it to the Nevada State Legislature. My name is Craig Hoffecker and I talked to you on the telephone at some point in the past, in case you remember me.

As you know, it is very early in the legislative session. Many bills will not even be introduced until around March 25, 2013. However, I did run a check of our bill draft request list using the term “trafficking” and was able to find the proposed measures listed below:

Assembly Bill 67- Establishes crime of sex trafficking of child or adults and includes other related provisions.

Assembly Bill 113- Establishes the crime of sex trafficking of a minor.

Bill Draft Request No. 679- Provides certain protections and services for victims of human trafficking

Bill Draft Request No. 715- Revises provisions governing human trafficking.

Text of bill draft requests in confidential until, and if, a bill is introduced in a House of the Legislature. However, please feel free to visit the Nevada Legislature’s website (www.leg.state.nv.us) to track the progress of the Legislature through the session and any specific measures you may be interested in following. Just for your information, both A.B. 67 and A.B. 113 are scheduled for a joint hearing of the Assembly Committee on Judiciary and the Senate Committee on Judiciary at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Room 4100 of the Legislative Building in Carson City with a videoconference to Room 4412 of the Grant Sawyer State Office Building, 555 East Washington Avenue in Las Vegas. The public will be able to speak to the judiciary committees at either location if you are interested in providing testimony. Here is a link to the agenda: http://www.leg.state.nv.us/Session/77th2013/Agendas/Senate/JUD/Final/235.pdf.

Letter to Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Mo Denis about Brothel Expansion into Clark County

Posted by sexworkrecovery on February 13, 2013 at 3:50 PM Comments comments (0)

Dear Marilyn and Mo:

I read today that you said you were "against" legalizing prostition in Clark County. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/feb/12/democratic-leaders-give-thumbs-down-legalizing-pro/ I don't know if you got my letter that we had a survivor of trafficking within the so called "legal" brothesl in Nevada present to the Legislature on Monday so I'm attaching it here just to make sure.

We wrote the letter because there's been services that do exist for trafficking victims, and sex workers trying to go through the transition out of the sex industry, that are only not being given out as referrals to those who need these services (Children of the Night for child victims and Sex Workers Anonymous for adult victims) since 1987, but that ever since there's been these "groups" on the scene the last couple of years basically no different than pimps in that they're exploiting the situation to try and raise money for their groups while not only NOT providing services to ALL victims of trafficking, but in order to accomplish their fund raising projects they're getting up and claiming that people have to donate "because nothing exists" to help these victims. Which might just be considered a case that they don't know how to use Google and can look up that services do exist - if not for the fact that both CON and SWA have been notifying these various people and programs that we do exist and then they're STILL going in front of the microphones and claiming that "nothing exists" and that "we need money".

Then what happens? The RJ and John Hambrick and Nevada's Attorney General - right after receiving our letter handed to them by this trafficking victim who bravely ventured onto the legislature floor (completely without asking for money and without payment I should add) with a lettter written on behalf of Nevada trafficking victims go on to not only not mention our group's name again - but then report that "there's no existing services" and that "money needs to be raised" all while also claiming they're going to "protect the identity of donors" who have donated to fund work to help trafficking victims.

This is fraud. If you're taking money under the pretext to the donors that "nothing exists" and then to help trafficking victims - yet none of this money is going to projects that are providing services to Nevada trafficking victims for years now - that's fraud. For all we know, the money they're receiving is from the brothels who have a clear objective to expand into Clark County for years now.

I know that because I had arranged to receive a $30,000 grant to open up a "drop in crisis center" in downtown Las Vegas in 1999. Then Mayor Oscar Goodman then stepped in and had my grant transferred to the Salvation Army's shelter. When I confronted him about this act - he told me that we would open up a "drop in crisis center over his dead body" because not only his plan to open up brothels in Clark County - but also because he said that "he didn't want images of burned out hookers on the streets of Las Vegas with track marks on their arms in desperate need of help" coming to such a center because they "are spending millions of dollars in advertising to promote sex and Las Vegas to attract in business men who want to think these beautiful women are waiting to greet them". He was then quoted as saying that he "wanted to build magnificient brothels in Las Vegas" and proceeded to dress up showgirls to promote the image of "sex and sin" in Las Vegas to attract in such business.

Of course this worked against him when President Obama slammed men using "convention meetings" as an excuse to just come party here - and there's been many well reported cases of large corporations who have stated in the media that they have not had their business, conference and convention meetings here in Vegas specifically because of the image of prostitution and Vegas.

Further, I have tried speaking to the economics department at Nevada to get an "official" study done to show that the existing brothels - while paying a certain amount of money in taxes to Nye County - are costing the state of Nevada a tremendous amount of money through things like foster care, Medicaid, SSI, welfare, disability, unemployment, etc. when these women are so burned out by working there that they wind up on these services for the rest of their lives in some cases because they are not being referred to programs like ours which do get them through the recovery process and working again. Our average member goes from being on drugs, unemployed, and suffering from severe PTSD (as well as other issues), to usually being employed full-time within one to two years (depending on their health and education). However, when we've come across members coming out of sex work and trafficking who have not had access to our program or gone through something like Children of the Night - we've found these men and women on the dole for the rest of their lives in most cases.

When I tried explaining to Oscar Goodman that once word got out that another brothel was opening in Vegas - not only would there be an increase in trafficking because it's a proven statistic that anywhere there's legal prostitution, trafficking increases as evidenced by countries such as Amsterdamn, Australia and the UK, as well as the report we did with Melissa Farley in 2007 here in Nevada - but that there would also be a significant increase in women who would be needing services provided through things like Medicaid, SSI, welfare, shelters, the Mental Health Dept., as well as an increase in the diseases these women spread. I'm not talking things like HIV (which the test claiming that no brothel workers have contracted HIV was a fake test paid for by Joe Conforte by the way and I can prove it), but also things like TB, Hep C, HPV, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia which is the diseases we're seeing our members having developed after years of sexual contact with strangers - condom or no condom.

While the brothels have said they want to pay a sales tax to increase revenues to the state in exchange for operating, and while that may sound enticing at the gate - they've refused to address that if they're going to be attracting in women from all over the USA to come and work for them (which they do actively recruit), that the women who don't make the cut, and the women who work there and then quit, or get too sick to keep working, are all going to be winding up in this state and needing exit support and medical services. There's also going to be a related demand for funding for trafficking rescue services for all of the pimps who are going to be dragging women into this state to be working at such new brothels if allowed to open as well. The only thing slowing down some of these traffickers is the fact that Nye County is a far drive out of the major city. You open a brothel in Vegas - and you'll have every pimp in the country dragging women here kicking and screaming. Women who are going to need rescue services not only for themselves - but for their children as well.

If you listen to my radio show http://stoptraffictalk.webs.com/apps/podcast/ you'll hear three of these victims had children related to sex work. One woman had a baby by a rape by a client, another had a baby by her pimp, and the male even had a child by a female client of his. Our studies done over the years show that the average prostitute has at least two children. When these women are put on things like SSI - so are the children. When they're caught engaging in illegal prostitution should they not be able to work at the legal brothels because they've contracted a disease and are fired but still need to pay their rent and placed in jail - those children do not just wind up in the foster care system - many of those male and female children go on to engage in prostitution themselves - if not given the proper intervention and treatment services groups like Sex Workers Anonymous has been providing successfully for decades now.

If you get any future discussions going about legalizing prostitution - I'd like to be included in those talks please. I've tried talking to George Flint about doing something where those who aren't in the brothels, and that those leaving the brothel employ, receive cards or flyers about how to reach our program, as well as Children of the Night's, and he's refused to even discuss the issue with me despite calling himself a minister and a christian.

I was pretty shocked (well not really as this has been going on for a few years now and the RJ even told me to my face that they have "banned" their reporters from writing anything about our group because their publisher wants to support the expansion of the brothels into Vegas because it means more ad dollars for them - and they don't care if "someone dies because of not finding the phone number to a program that would save their life), that our member who bravely came onto the legislature floor to deliver our letter and feelings as well as our suggestions about what could be done to help these victims was not mentioned yet again in the news reports.

Also before you make any future decisions about legalizing the brothels - I could suggest you read Melissa Farley's "Trafficking in Nevada" as well as my book "Diary of a Sex Trafficking Crusader" which has detailed about our trafficking work here in Nevada as well as since we started doing this type of work nationally.

Unlike John Hambrick who plays documenataries about trafficking in Africa such as he did for Congo Justice - our work and efforts go to help domestic trafficking victims - and specifically Nevada trafficking victims. Also unlike any other state - Nevada is the only one who will not print stories about trafficking programs that allow access and services to ALL victims whether they be gay, straight, bi, lesbian, transgender, or of a religion other than fundamentalist Christian. Also unlike John Hambrick - when we're speaking to you on behalf of trafficking victims - we speak on behalf of Nevada victims - and taxpayers and residents of this state - not another country. Again, we would have no problem about him offering support to Congo Justice - but when he's not even mentioning the actual Nevada trafficking victim who came up to him and asked if he had read "our" letter about trafficking here in Nevada - and so far has lent us not one dollar nor one minute of support to our group - even refusing to help me to get up to the legislature floor to speak personally on Monday when I asked him for help now, and in the past, because I don't have money to buy airfare, nor do I have a car to drive up there myself.

I mean is it me - or doesn't it seem logical that if you're going to be putting together a bill to help trafficking victims in Nevada - don't you think you should at least be speaking to Nevada trafficking victims? Yet when our member/survivor spoke to the legislature on Monday and told about her own trafficking witnessed in the legal brothels - and asked a direct question about what was going to be done about it - she was completely blown off. Then her being there isn't even mentioned in the media? Was the reporters even there - or was this a delibate omission about her presence?

Since Nevada press can't seem to print their own news because they're obviously too worried about their ad dollars - I've gone ahead and notified the Huffington Post and the Advocate Magazine, as well as Rosie O'Donnell and Chaz Bono about how this trafficking movement has been descrimating against gays, lesbians, bi's and transgenders as well as the B'Nai B'rith organization about their descrimination against Jews and other religions. I've attached below a copy of the letter I sent to them for your review as well.

I'm also contacting various other agencies about the fact that the RJ, the Sun, and other publications who are worried about ad dollars more than printing the news are clearly manipulating the truth, lying by omission, and otherwise defrauding the readers by not printing news like our group, and our member, and a survivor of trafficking there on the floor Monday speaking out on behalf of all victims here.

If I can be of any assistance in the future, please keep me in mind. If there's any way you can help us get the word out about our program, and Children of the Night's program, to the victims here in Nevada that need services NOW and not maybe in the future when these fund raisers get done doing their "dog and pony" show to raise funds that is not going to fund victim services (I haven't seen a dollar from any of them and I doubt either has Lois Lee), please just let me know.

Thank you.

PS - don't just listen to me that when a woman now leaves the brothel without being given our number, or has an "exit" strategy set up in place right now - they leave with no money, a drug problem and wind up putting a burden on the state's taxpayers money that costs us as much money as they make for us - listen to Airforce Amy's own words, a current brothel employee, who just returned to work for Dennis last month. Attached is a link to her page - copies of screen shots are also attached in case they've taken down her page. Please note that she says "government assistance" when she left the brothel with no money and a drug problem!

http://www.bunnyranch.com/newsletter/airforceamy/

Multiple that by the majority of women leaving this brothel now times all the other legal brothels and times all the women who leave there each month. Now if you expand this business into Clark County and add even more employees working even more clients because they will have more clients in Vegas than Nye County - and you have a system that is NOT going to be increasing revenues for the state like they're claiming if you allow them to expand into Clark County - but instead costing us money out the back door!

Members of the Legislature

Re: Sex Trafficking Legislation

To Whom It May Concern:

First, I guess I should introduce myself to those of you whom I've not spoken to before. My name is

Jody Williams. In 1987, I founded the first ever 12 Step program to deal with the sex worker in “all”

forms and manifestations according to Alcoholics Anonymous when I applied to them for permission to

adapt their Steps and Traditions to our program. What I mean by this is that our membership was/is

open to men and women, of any age, race, gender, and sexual identity who are from any area of the sex

industry ranging from prostitutes, to strippers, madams, pimps, the porn industry, telephone sex

operators, webcam workers, and even the “professional mistresses” and dominatrix's.

We called ourselves “Prostitutes Anonymous” from 1987 until 1995 when we changed our name to

“Sex Workers Anonymous” because of the invention of the internet and it's impact on the sex industry.

Because of the internet – our program was suddenly seeing members coming in for help who had never

had any physical intercourse with their clients at any time in their “career”. They certainly couldn't

identify with the word “prostitute” was one of the reasons for the name change. For another, we found

many telephone directories, databases, and adult filters on the internet on college and library internet

search engines which would block us for using the word “prostitute” - but we did not receive the same

blockage when using the name “Sex Workers” instead. We also had developed members over time who

really couldn't identify with the term “prostitute” because of their work in the “sex industry”.

For an example – we have one member who used to own two strip clubs in Las Vegas, Nevada. He

never worked as a prostitute, and never had sex with any of the patrons to his club. However, he has

had an extremely hard time adjusting to life after feeling so ashamed of how he was exploiting women,

and the way he was tolerating trafficking in and out of his club that he had received from a mobster

who had gone to prison and left the clubs to him – that he came to us for help in putting his life back

together and with wanting to be able to look himself in the eye again with pride. This man suffered

great financial setbacks by just shutting down his clubs the way he just did with no notice to anyone

beforehand – and it caused his business relationships to suffer a great deal which had been dependent

upon the strip clubs. This man met our “requirement for membership” in our program in that he had a

“desire to quit the sex industry and find recovery” - but he certainly wouldn't have identified with the

1

label of “prostitute”. So on behalf of a group vote from our members in 1995 – we changed our name

from Prostitutes Anonymous to Sex Workers Anonymous for some of the above reasons.

When we started this program – many things were different “then” from “today” besides just the

invention of the internet. This was the late 1980's – which meant that HIV/AIDS was just starting to

transfer from the gay to the heterosexual community because of the bisexual prostitutes, as well as

porn, and the group sex clubs that existed on both the east and west coasts at this time. This was also a

time when no one in the “system” was equipped to deal with the HIV/AIDS issue. The jails/prisons

didn't want to deal with a HIV infected transgender in custody who might be threatening to bite the

guards and/or other inmates.

Treatment centers were refusing to admit anyone that was a “known” prostitute out of the claim that

their facilities were not set up to “protect” the non-HIV infected clients from possible transmission of

the virus from living in a residential program with a prostitute who at that time was showing rates of

infection as high as 75 % depending on what study you were looking at. Domestic violence and

homeless shelters were refusing to give admittance to anyone that was a prostitute not just because of

the fear of HIV infection – but also because of the fact they were not equipped to deal with their pimps

coming around with guns to drag them back “home” with them.

We were receiving a tremendous amount of “cooperation” back then and for many years because of the

whole connection between prostitution and the spread and fear of HIV/AIDS at this time. In fact, we

couldn't get referrals added to calling us fast enough back then because many programs didn't want to

be dealing with the prostitutes back then for this reason. This is why we had hotline after directory

after program sending us regular referrals for many years while HIV/AIDS was a huge fear and

concern from many of these other agencies.

We weren't getting most of our referrals back then because of wanting to help the “trafficking” victims

because frankly back then no one even really believed trafficking existed. It took us years to convince

certain people that HIV/AIDS would spread from the gay community into the heterosexual community

through the transference of bisexual prostitutes – but once that message got across then we received all

kinds of assistance doing “outreach” to sex workers all over the United States. For years in most major

cities – there used to be RV's that would go out and pass out free condoms, clean needles, and lists of

hotlines the prostitutes could call for help with phone numbers on these lists such as ours for example.

I still have cities today that will go out and pass out as many cards and/or flyers as we can provide them

with. I had to stop sending them these after my stroke and I stopped working because I just didn't have

the money any more to pay for these things.

You have to realize that back in the 70's, 80's and even most of the 90's – no one in America really even

believed trafficking, i.e., the “forcing” of a man, woman and/or child into some form of sex work

whether that be porn, prostitution, stripping, etc. even existed. I know that because in 1987 when we

first opened our program there was only two victim/survivors speaking out in the media, lectures,

magazines, etc., about trafficking being real in America. That was Linda Lovelace and myself. That

was it – there was no one else on the scene who would speak out in public about being a trafficking

victim in a way anyone would believe wasn't being “made up”.

Linda Lovelace had to be believed because most of American at that time had seen her “Deep Throat”

which she was now going on TV to explain was filmed with her having a gun pointed at her head off

2

camera. I had just been the subject of an extremely high profile arrest where the international media

had nicknamed me “The High Tech Madam” in only 1984 because of a brothel I'd been running three

blocks from the Van Nuys Police Station. In order to be believed – we both refused to let any “movie

of the week” to be made about us, or to write any best-selling memoirs either. We knew if we did we'd

only be accused of making our stories up to “sell a book” or “get a movie made” - so we stuck to giving

interviews for magazines, doing talk shows, or even doing documentaries (of which I had four

documentaries made about my work back then).

It must have worked because now you have the whole face of American law enforcement changing in

front of our eyes to reflect the understanding that many who “appear” to be “prostitutes” are actually

victims of trafficking in reality. Some states have already changed their laws entirely so that anyone

who would have once been arrested and jailed as a prostitute – can now receive treatment as a victim

and even have past criminal records expunged if they can show that they were acting against their will.

A lot came out of the TV talk shows Linda and I used to do back then besides just American now

recognizing that trafficking is real and does affect domestic victims. Back in 1988, I was asked to do a

Sally Jesse Raphael show. At the time, Joe Conforte owned the Mustang Ranch in Nevada. He had

plans to expand his operation into California. To accomplish this – he started doing the talk show

circuits. Back then the FCC used to require that any show on any topic had to present “both” side of an

argument. So he couldn't appear without an opponent to discuss the idea of legalization prostitution.

On many of the shows he did – I'd come on to promote the phone number for Sex Workers Anonymous

actually and not to bash his idea about expanding the legalization into California. Since I was speaking

as a 12 Step representative – I would not speak “for” nor “against” legalization – but would only talk

about recovery being available and giving out our contact information at the end of the show like I had

learned to do from people who handled media in Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and

Sexaholics Anonymous that were mentoring me through the founding of our program.

At this one filming – Joe appeared with three women who worked at the brothel who came on the show

to talk about how wonderful life at the brothel was, how they loved being a prostitute, how safe it was

there, and how much money they made. I was on representing “recovery” and spoke only about how

one sometimes needing an ongoing program after leaving the sex industry where one would connect

with other survivors as we did in our program.

After the taping was over and I was heading back to my dressing room – one of these brothel

prostitutes came running up to me and started pleading with me to “save her”. She told me that Joe had

drugged her to force her onto the plane at gunpoint (they had been on a private plane he'd chartered),

and that more than one woman had disappeared at the ranch after a disagreement with Joe, and that he

had not only forced her to talk the way she had on that show, but that she was also in fear of her life if

she returned to the ranch with him.

The producer was open to helping us. She arranged for a “fake” ambulance to come and take her away

to the ER without letting Joe into the back with her. We then arranged to meet up with her down the

street where the ambulance had really taken her – to where her travel arrangements had been made for

me to get her into the only residential program that took prostitutes at this time. You had to realize that

in the year that we started our group, and the year this talk show was done, there were only three

programs in existence for prostitutes. Children of the Night was working with prostitutes under the age

of 18 years old. The Mary Magdalene Program was running a residential program that lasted a year.

3

Then our group existed for everyone else in the whole USA that was over 18 and needed an

“outpatient” program.

As I flew back to California with this woman – word had also spread about her “escape” back to the

brothel from having talked to me after the show. I don't know how long any of you have been in

Nevada, or if maybe you've ever followed the history of Joe Conforte and the Mustang Ranch, or

maybe even seen the movie made about him with Joe Pesci and Helen Mirren – but you have to take

into context that Joe murdered a famous boxer right on the ranch property in cold blood and he was

unarmed. Many say he got away with it because of his police, and judicial connections. But whatever

the reasons – he did shoot an unarmed man in a domestic dispute caused by a jealous rage over the

boxer running off with his wife and he served no prison time for this murder. One can only imagine

how scared this would make a prostitute of the man – especially knowing how the police in general at

that time were notorious for not even investigating cases of a missing prostitute very thoroughly.

What happened after this initial “escape” of this woman after the talk show – was that other women

started calling me and asking for help to get out of the brothel physically. Then after everything they'd

gone through at the brothel – they needed ongoing support that would also not reveal their location to

anyone out of fear they'd be drug back to the Mustang by Joe or one of his “friends”. Which is all the

more reason why the vast majority of our members do maintain their “anonymity at the level of press,

radio and films”. Many of them are hiding out from traffickers who are still looking for them today.

Joe is down in Brazil now everyone knows. But what many might not realize is that he is still running

prostitutes down in Brazil since he left the USA.

He's been out of the country for a long time – but this doesn't mean his “reach” and “influence” isn't

still affecting people today. Kemp Schiffer, who was initially introduced to Joe and the ranch when he

was an IRS agent taking over the operation on behalf of our government for unpaid back taxes, was

turned into a trafficker himself who “ran” girls into the ranch and other trafficking operations back and

forth between Nevada and California from approximately 1991 clear up until 2011. He even left being

an IRS agent under the accusations of being a trafficker – but no one was able to do anything to stop

him until another operation exposed him less than two years ago. This meant he was using his badge to

traffic women back and forth from Nevada and California for almost 20 YEARS before anyone was

able to put a stop to this man. Kemp didn't act alone either – he was trafficking the women to and from

someone else. It was through investigating an internet escort service that the tapes of him came to light

and he was finally arrested.

It is “well known” within the sex industry itself that there is a trafficking network that operates between

California and Nevada. A trafficking network that involves not only the legal brothels, but also the

illegal escort services, massage parlors, strip clubs, etc., that run women back and forth from the

northern end of Nevada around Reno and Carson City, into not only Eureka where Kemp was

discovered having trafficked a girl using his IRS badge – but also throughout northern California with

others who appear to be quite “respectable” and also connected with “law enforcement” itself to protect

these operations.

It recently came to light about Chris Butler. He had been running a private investigative agency that

was even featured on Dr. Phil as being considered “state of the art” and which even utilized “soccer

moms” as private investigators by day. While at night, Chris was using his agency and connections

with law enforcement to traffic women in prostitution through escort services and massage parlors.

4

Contrary to what most people are revealing about traffickers – the most dangerous and the most

“organized” of them are not pimps driving Cadillacs and sitting in their cars listening to hip hop while

they watch “their bitches” on the corner. The most organized and dangerous traffickers are very

mulch-layered criminals. They run prostitutes, as well as guns, drugs, stolen black market human

organs and I've even witnessed them stealing and reselling expensive luxury automotive and

commercial truck parts which with the computerized pieces can be quite expensive items.

Chris Butler was obtaining drugs from the evidence department from a police officer friend, Norman

Wielsch, he'd known since he was a drug officer back in the 90's with. He was also using another

officer, Louis Lombari, to execute false search warrants who was also working as a drug officer, and

through CNET at the time. They were all using their badges and ability to intimidate prostitutes not

just through their massage parlor operation either – as they would routinely just “shake down”

prostitutes and madams they'd find on the internet for thousands of dollars in some cases. They were

all doing this while waving Contra Costa police badges with one hand and appearing on TV as “the

good guys” and Norman Wielsch was receiving top honors for executing some of the largest drug busts

in the state.

For years there's been another network of traffickers that runs in and out of Las Vegas like it's their

version of Grand Central Station. Vegas has the highest number of prostitutes being arrested under the

ages of 18 than anywhere in the nation. One of the reasons for this is because traffickers make a

routine stop in Vegas as they keep the victims moving every week from city to city because they've

been forced off of the internet by people thinking they're going to be putting a stop to prostitution and

trafficking by shutting them off of the internet. Other traffickers come up from Los Angeles to Vegas

every weekend to work their girls – especially when there are conventions and special events in town

they think will drive in extra business for their prostitutes.

One trafficking ring used to have an ex-corrections officer as the madam of the house. She'd find

recruits to work for her through other officers still working within the jails here in Vegas. These

officers would identify who was not only coming out as a prostitute – but also who would be on

probation that they could intimidate into working for them at cut rates. As the clients would drive up to

the house – a “valet” would park the car across the street at a shopping center so that no one would

notice all the cars parked in front of her home. At the shopping center – there would be a mechanic

would would take out all these Mercedes and BMW car parts and replace them with cheap counterfeits

they'd arrange to have stolen from another friend who worked at a local auto parts store. Through this

ex-corrections officer's connections with law enforcement, marshals, sheriff's, etc. - they would use

these officers cars to transport the guns, drugs, stolen car parts, and women they were trafficking so

that the cars would never be stopped, or the contents questioned. If anyone asked about the women –

they were “criminals in custody”. No one asked to see papers – or to search the trunk of a marshal's car

either coming across from state to state.

Why am I telling you about these things? For one thing, I'm trying to help you to understand why

many trafficking victims might be reluctant to simply call 911 or speak to a local police officer about

needing help. While the officer they're speaking to could be a very good cop – that doesn't mean they'd

make it out of the police station without one of the “bad” cops hearing about it. We have news clips of

another story that's been in the media of a cop who got involved with a prostitute he'd arrested. When

she tried to report his forcing her to give him her prostitution earnings when she'd wanted to quit –

5

news of her being at the station making the police report reached him before she even left the building.

As for the Salvation Army “safe house” for prostitutes – many local traffickers will actually drive the

women right up to the front of that location and point out that they know this is right where they're

doing if they try and run. They point out there's no security outside the building – which means the

minute they try and simply walk down the street to go and get a soda or come out of the building – they

could be “waiting for them”.

They also have a habit of when one victim runs – they'll send another victim “on the run” shortly after.

This way they wind up where the first victim is. They then issue a threat. The victim gets scared and

comes back because where is there left to go if you can't go to the police for help? Many victims

believe this is the situation – and for that reason they don't feel safe coming forward for help with the

local authorities or by using the Salvation Army shelter. Neither are they likely to want to go to the

shelter when they're living in nice houses and condos with these traffickers. Gilded cages they be – but

they're still nicer than the shelter in some of these victims' minds who haven't seen how horrible things

can be yet while they're “new” to the “game”.

I'm also trying to help you to understand why I felt I had no choice but to relocate here from California

to Nevada in 1996. The calls I was receiving from women who were coming out of situations like this

where they felt they could not safely call for help through the local police had reached so many in

number – that I couldn't keep coming up from Los Angeles to Nevada every week like the point it had

reached by then because of the calls I was receiving from not only the brothels after we rescued this

one victim – but also from the local escort services where many escorts and even madams have been

coming up missing and the police won't even look for them.

It's not just a case of not looking for them either. When I received word from one of the other women

Peter Todd, the pimp in the Jessie Foster case, was telling me about him – I tried contacting the task

force with a copy of the email I'd received from this woman telling me about the case and what she'd

seen Peter Todd do. Not only did they refuse to accept the email from me so they could investigate the

case – I couldn't even get the officer to call me back when the call came into my phone about another

woman in fear of her life from Peter Todd. If they're not even calling back their own hotline numbers

when you're calling about a case about a missing prostitute – how safe do you think the prostitutes are

going to feel about coming forward to local police for help with leaving a trafficker?

Up until recently, there was no shelter for trafficking victims anywhere. While there is one now in Las

Vegas through the Salvation Army – this isn't going to help a woman who is coming out of a trafficking

situation in Reno, Carson City, Pahrump, or even Nye County where some of the brothels are that the

victims know about anyway. If someone finds themselves on the streets of Reno at 2:00 a.m. - they

need help to reach the shelter in Vegas. Nor does the existing shelter at the Salvation Army in Vegas

offer help to each and every victim of trafficking.

For one thing – there are male victims. For another, there may be gay, bisexual and/or transgender

victims. Besides gender and sexuality issues – there's the issue of religion. More than one victim of

trafficking has called me from the Salvation Army shelter where they've been put out on the street with

no referrals because of them discovering this person was gay, because they were Jewish, Buddhist, etc.

Not to mention the 22 Chinese women who weren't only not allowed to stay at the Salvation Army

shelter during the “Operation Dollhouse” arrest back in 2007 – but were actually released back directly

6

to their suspected traffickers with no referrals being made to them, nor follow-ups being done to see

how they were treated once they'd been returned to the very same men the very same day as the arrests.

I've actually been doing quite well at getting calls from the victims of trafficking up until a few years

ago. Through “informants” and also people who were in positions to make contact with many of the

trafficking victims in Nevada – I've been receiving phone calls from people needing help not just in

Nevada – but also clear across the USA and into other countries. This is why Sex Workers Anonymous

now has meetings all over the USA, into Canada, and in 10 other countries right now besides the USA.

This is why when Melissa Farley, PhD, has received a request to do a report on sex trafficking in

Nevada in 2007 and she found herself unable to reach any victims here to talk to her – she came to me

for help with getting the interviews done. Through our network of survivors, and our connections

within the brothels themselves, Melissa Farley was able to not only get this first ever ground breaking

report done on trafficking specifically in Nevada – but she did so at great risk to herself as when she

entered one of these brothels she had a gun pulled on her and an armed guard following her around the

whole time she was being shown the grounds and allowed to “talk” to the women there.

When Melissa turned this report into her book “Trafficking in Nevada” she was pretty shocked at what

she found going on here. Studies in other countries have shown a direct connection between the

increase in trafficking and the legal brothels. Through doing this report – she was able to outline and

diagram what the connections where that actually did make for trafficking to be at an apex point here in

Nevada directly because of the legal brothels that exist nowhere in the USA but here in Nevada.

So shocked she came to me and asked me if she could use this report to help fund our work. She said

she wanted to form NCAST – Nevada Coalition Against Sex Trafficking. Melissa explained how we

could do so much more than simply offer recovery services to the victims after their escape and

“retirement” as we were doing through Sex Workers Anonymous if I joined her, and Candace Johnson,

to form this coalition. Her and Candace told me how we could raise money to where we could offer

treatment to all prostitutes, instead of them being arrested – if we could change the legislation, and run

a program that would accomplish these goals. The plan was for Candace to be the director of the

program because of her father's connections within the faith based communities. Melissa said she was

going to help organize the changes to the laws of Nevada – while I was going to be supposedly put in

charge of providing direct “rescue and restore” services to the victims.

In order to get NCAST started – she said we had to first announce the findings of this report in the

national media. The Review Journal had told me previously they wouldn't run any stories on

trafficking, or what our trafficking work was all about because they (1) didn't want to risk losing the ad

dollars that the brothels and that the sex related industries are spending with them every day, and (2)

the publisher was friends with Oscar Goodman who had stated in the news media before that his intent

was to “open magnificent brothels in downtown Las Vegas”. The same Oscar Goodman who had

previously directly interfered with a grant I was supposed to receive one year to open a “drop-in crisis

center” in Vegas for prostitutes that he said “hell would freeze over” before he'd let that happen because

he wasn't going to let anything interfere with “his plans” to bring the brothel tax dollars into Vegas. So

clearly to get the word out about this report – we had to schedule an international press conference.

Because she said that many would say these interviews had been “fabricated” because the brothel

owners would not let her video or audiotape the interviews with the women inside them – she asked me

7

to convince women who had been trafficked “inside” legal Nevada brothels to come forward to back up

their statements/accusations in this report at the press conference, at UNLV, and at some local fundraising

events she'd organized. At no time during any of our conversations with each other I need to

add here had Melissa told me that NCAST was going to be pushing for “abolition” of prostitution, in

other words to shut down the legal brothels.

I never heard the word “abolition” until the news cameras were rolling and Melissa was actually out of

my ear shot. I didn't even know she had been calling to “outlaw the brothels” and for “abolition” of the

brothels in Nevada until the day after the press conference when I was reading the reports and watching

the videos of the news later on. Because I did not agree to call for the “shutting down of the brothels”

in any of our discussions – to say I was upset when I found out she'd been saying this whole panel was

calling for “abolition” to the reporters while I was out of ear range of her and Candice would be an

understatement. This hadn't even come up when she'd had me talking to various possible donors and

investors in a “safe house” and “program” we could put together in Nevada the day before the press

conference was held.

When I found out that she had put a “bulls eye” on my backside during this press conference by saying

that I was to be on the board of NCAST which was setting about to outlaw the local brothels – I was

besides myself. I told her I had not agreed to the kind of backlash I was going to receive from making

a statement such as this – and I had never agreed to even make this kind of statement during any of our

arrangements about the whole formation of NCAST or the press conference rehearsals.

The backlash was immediate. Lance Malone at the time was on the board of directors for the power

company of Nevada at this time. Lance Malone who now owns the Mustang Ranch brothel I need to

add. Within hours of this press conference – my power had been cut off with no warning. When I

called to see what was wrong – I found they had attached my dead grandmother's past electric bill on

mine and were demanding $2,000 in back interest and balance from me before they'd cut my service

back on. They refused to give me an inch. The then Assemblyman Bob Beers had assured me he

would “have my back” for the backlash I'd receive from giving this press conference – so I called him.

He made one call and I had my power back on in two hours. Now I don't know who he called or what

was said – all I know is he made the call and the problem was resolved.

I had my telephone and cable lines literally ripped out of the walls to my condo. My cable company

reported that I had called to cancel my own services supposedly. My bank closed my account claiming

a police officer had called and said I was “a victim of ID theft” and forced me to go down and verify

who I was before they'd release my own money back to me. My landlord was told by some mysterious

party that if I wasn't evicted “immediately” that they'd have some legal problems of their own to deal

with. My HOA started receiving calls about my dogs barking all night long – which was not happening

in reality and never happened before the day of the press conference. I had the police show up at my

door demanding to speak to me and my daughter claiming someone had told them I was “threatening to

kill myself and my daughter” by some anonymous caller. Funny thing was – even Melissa didn't know

where I was living at the time. So how any one could have found my residence at that time could only

have been done through a search of my legal records which I had not made public to anyone.

To top things off – I lived in a gated community with a security guard at the gate who was not supposed

to let anyone in without verifying this with a tenant as well as footed security around the grounds. I

came out of my house the next day after the press conference to find that my car's tires had been

8

completely slashed, and all of the windows had been smashed out. Then someone had gone into my

car's engine and completely trashed my engine. When I went to file an insurance claim for vandalism –

my insurance company had claimed that I had supposedly “canceled my coverage” the day before the

car was demolished. Without a way to prove I hadn't made that call – I was now without a car or

money to replace the car either.

I issued a press statement that I was not affiliated with Melissa Farley any longer – and that I had not

agreed to the statements about calling for “abolition” of the legal brothels in Nevada. This is when I

announced that I was going to do the work I'd said I was going to be doing – but instead of it being

through NCAST – it was going to be now through Trafficking & Prostitution Services instead.

Trafficking exists all over the country and the world where there are not Nevada brothels. Closing

them down isn't going to stop trafficking – anymore than pushing traffickers off of Craigslist is going to

stop trafficking either.

I then heard back through volunteers that Melissa Farley had received checks for over $180,000 in

donations from people who thought they were funding the work that I had been doing, and the program

I had wanted to establish in Nevada where we would offer regular therapy, and transitional housing for

those coming out of trafficking. When I asked for the money that was meant for our provision of direct

services that the donors wrote the checks for me to receive – I was refused. When I went and located

the donors and asked for them to stop payments on the checks they're written Melissa and to re-issue

them to me – these poor people had no idea what was going on. The checks had already been cashed

and they told me the only way to have the money returned would have been to sue Melissa outright.

No one wants to file a lawsuit over money meant for a trafficking program – so that just ended

everything right there for that.

Until a few months later. There was a nonprofit that took my chapters out of the report, took my name

off of the report, and then basically replaced their name with Melissa Farley's name. They then reissued

this report in such a manner as to make the report look like they'd written this report – and

issued national press releases about “their” findings with trafficking in Nevada. Wondering about how

they accomplished this report knowing how much trouble Melissa had doing it without my help and I'd

never spoken to these people, nor had any of our membership spoken to them either – I contacted some

of the people who had been quoted in the interview such as Lois Lee from Children of the Night.

Everyone reported to me they had never spoken to this nonprofit group at all.

Before I could do anything about this clear plagiarism – my daughter was struck by a SUV in broad

daylight as she crossed the street in the crosswalk. Her back was broken in three places – and she was

put into a body cast where she had to be taken care of 24/7. The doctors said she had to be as

“immobile” as possible if her back was to heal properly – so I was caring for her around the clock

during this time. This meant while this nonprofit went around from church to church presenting “their'

findings and getting nice fat checks written to them to do something about “trafficking in Nevada” - I

was unable to do anything to put a stop to it.

When I heard they had cleared about $1,200,000 in donations in Nevada to help Nevada victims – I

then contacted them about a case I had just received. A woman had just left her pimp and was in fear

of her life. To get away from him – she had just stabbed him in the leg. She knew if he found her she'd

be hurt badly because of how he's hurt other prostitutes. This girl was only 16 years old – so I knew I

could get her to Children of the Night for safety. My only problem was transportation to get her to the

9

airport. My car had just been demolished and my daughter was now in a body cast. I was still on SSI

from a stroke I'd suffered and therefore had no money. So I contacted this nonprofit and asked them for

cab fare to help me get this young girl to the airport where Children of the Night would then fly her out

there for safety and treatment.

That's when they told me that they “did not provide direct services to victims” and basically hung up

the phone on me. Calling around town looking for someone who would be willing to take us to the

airport – I encountered something I'd never heard nor had to deal with before. Whereas in the past I

could usually pick up the phone and call up a local church, temple, synagogue, etc. and explain the

situation to them and ask for help with something and get it – now I was suddenly met with a very

interesting response.

I was now being told that unless this girl or myself were a member of either this specific church, or

another specific church – and/or unless this girl and/or myself would agree to commit to this or that

specific church – we would not receive any assistance. What this had to do with driving a young girl to

the airport to receive safety and care with a program that had been around since 1987 like myself – I

had no idea. Especially since frankly none of these churches had even existed in 1996 when I moved to

Nevada to start working more directly with local Nevada victims of trafficking. Nor had any of these

other churches existed much before now either.

I also noticed some very very strange things happening now that had never happened to me before. I've

had a wonderful working relationship with many jails, prisons, probation and parole officers, social

workers, shelters, etc., in the past in other states before. For example, when Mayor Bradley asked me

to put together the first ever alternative sentencing program for prostitutes in Los Angeles in history –

we had no problem with these offices gladly giving referrals to our Sex Workers Anonymous programs

before. We had Sex Workers Anonymous meetings going in the jails, treatment programs, the gay and

lesbian drop-in centers, and were constantly getting referrals from judges, probation officers, parole

officers, social workers, etc. for their clients to attend SWA meetings as part of their treatment,

probation, and/or release treatment plan.

The same was the case when I was asked to do the same for Allentown, Pennsylvania. I was asked to

help design and run an alternative sentencing program for prostitutes up there because Allentown was

serving as a mid-way point for men and traffickers coming in from NJ, and NY, and PA all in one town

that only had one police officer and one small jail. They relocated me up there to become part of the

Lehigh County Program for Female Offenders where we had a SWA meeting in the men and womens'

jail, and in the residential house they had for the women to stay in while they were undergoing

counseling, job training, parenting classes, etc.

When we gave the press conference about trafficking in Nevada here in 2007 – I was swamped by

probation officers for both adult and child prostitutes asking me for help with the cases. The officers

for the children prostitutes said there were so many cases – they asked me if they gave me a vacant

office they had would I please agree to come down and work with the kids five days a week. They had

no budget – but our program is a 12 step free program. Being out of work at the time – I saw no

problem with coming down for a few hours a day and I agreed to come help out.

Then suddenly the “wall of silence” went up. No one was returning my calls. When I tried to find out

why one minute every one was “hot” about me coming down to help out and then the next no one

10

would return my calls – I managed to get one of the probation officers to meet with me “off the record”

and tell me what was going on.

Despite the fear of losing their job over it – one officer did agree to meet with me to tell me what the

problem one. For one thing, when this report on Trafficking in Nevada was released at this press

conference, our then Mayor Oscar Goodman was there. He waved the report around and told every

Metro officer there that if “anyone read this report or even spoke to Melissa Farley or Jody Williams

they would be fired immediately”. He said this in front of Ed Lawence, a reporter. Who when he

reported this statement to the press was suddenly now a “freelance” reporter. I don't know if there's a

connection there – but it was interesting timing.

The mayor then had found out about me offering to help out with the child prostitutes and had

supposedly issued the same threat. When I asked this officer what the problem was about – I was told

that they felt it was because they were hearing the kids talk about one after the other after the other case

after case of being abused sexually by police officers, other probation officers, social workers, etc.

This person's feeling was that they were concerned if an “outside” agency that was not financially

dependent upon the system were to start being able to coordinate cases, names, dates, etc. - that there

would soon be charges being filed against these people.

Not unlike what happened recently down in San Bernardino, California. There a counselor was

arrested for trafficking not just one 15 year old female – but they suspect he was trafficking others with

other counselors and social workers also. Since many of these victims report to me being trafficked

and abused sexually by not just the police, but also by people such as social workers, counselors, and

even probation officers – I could see why they might not want an outside agency having access to

hearing the stories from these kids about what's going on here. Especially an agency that they can't

threaten to cut off their funding, or take away their license to operate even. Because Sex Workers

Anonymous is a worldwide group that is not an “official” business anymore than Alcoholics

Anonymous is – there is no way to threaten to shut us down or cut off our funding if one were trying to

control us or stop us from making any reports to the media or to the Attorney General for that matter.

Which is one reason why I respect the National Trafficking Hotline. They're an outside agency where

if a victim were to report having a problem here in Nevada – this hotline would not only not refuse to

offer them any assistance they needed to escape trafficking – but they would also follow-up on any

complaints of misconduct by anyone in law enforcement, the judge's chambers, DEA, IRS, or any

counselors or social workers I'm sure.

But I have to interject here that while the National Trafficking Hotline does a fantastic job at what they

do – there are some very serious limitations in some respects to what they do as well. For one thing –

they offer assistance to someone who is escaping a trafficking situation to get from being trafficked to

being in a safe position somewhere. What they do not offer is a proven, successful, program of

recovery for all victims whether they be male or female, gay or straight, transgender, etc.

Yes they do give referrals to trafficking victims of therapists and treatment centers. However, I've been

asked by many of these same treatment centers and therapists to put together a continuing education

and a certification program for them on how we're providing treatment and recovery to our membership

over the years because of our success working with this community. They've been coming to me lately

admitting that they're not only having trouble knowing how to provide the needed services to this

11

community – but in some cases they don't even know how to communicate with these victims

“properly” in such a manner as they're even heard. So I'm currently working on a training program

that's been requested by the DOJ, the BOJ, therapists and social workers from one end of the USA to

the other, and even by the Center for Missing & Exploited Children on behalf of their network of

therapists who are working with the child trafficking victims that I'm currently working on producing

right now with professors to make it “approved” for continuing educational units. I've even been asked

to speak at the national Addictions Conference in Anaheim, California this year as well as other related

conferences and trainings over the next year. I could go on about what I've been asked to teach, speak

or, or submit articles to this year with respect to training others with what I know about working with

this community – but then this letter would be twice as long than it is already!

There's another matter of the fact that human trafficking, sex trafficking and even domestic violence

and rape victims find help in different ways. As part of my training to be of as much use to our

membership as possible – I've received training to staff hotlines and do intake for places such as the

rape hotlines, the domestic violence shelters, the suicide hotlines, even counseling people who have

just received word they are HIV/AIDS positive at some of the testing centers. I've also done the

“reverse” training at many of these hotlines and shelters where I've helped many of them in other states

understand how to help say a prostitute who is calling in to report a rape or that she's a victim of

domestic violence.

A victim of human trafficking where they're being forced to say work as a maid without being paid, or

a rape or domestic violence victim often is allowed to keep a telephone book. They're allowed to watch

TV, and talk to people, and even write down phone numbers. Most of them are allowed near

telephones even. Sadly, many sex trafficking victims are not allowed to keep phone books, are not

allowed to write down and keep phone numbers for future reference and usually are not allowed alone

with a phone where they might be able to call a hotline for help. While other “outsider” who might see

sex trafficking going on from the outside might be able to find and call the national trafficking hotline –

most victims of “real” sex trafficking are not allowed to either obtain, nor keep, and certainly not call

on a phone for help through such a hotline.

Which is why for most of the years that I've been here in Nevada specifically so I can be close enough

to be of service to these victims here in Nevada who need the physical help as well as continuing to

offer our membership services to our members across the world – I've usually been able to rely on

getting calls from the victims either from themselves when they've needed help and someone told them

about us – or I've been able to have someone else call us and tell us about a victim needing help. Many

of these sources took years to build up and trust us as not being connected with law enforcement in any

way – or many of these calls would not be coming in to our program for help in the first place.

But there's a problem going on right now that I've never encountered before. It's almost like a

“pimping” of the prostitutes happening – but this time it's being done by people who are looking to use

the condition of these trafficking victims to make some money and/or gain some power.

I'm watching as people who know good and well there are services available for these prostitutes – not

just from Sex Workers Anonymous for adults, but also through Children of the Night for the child

victims – who will get up in front of large groups of people, the press, and even politicians and they

will insist emphatically that “no services exist” for these trafficking victims when in fact there are

services. There are services that they are denying exist – because they want to raise $2,000,000 to

12

“build a safe house” or they want to raise money for this program or that program. I've watched one

judge repeatedly get up and insist he needs millions of dollars for his court room full of teen prostitutes

because “nothing exists for them” which is a complete and utter falsehood obviously to try and raise

money. For one thing, Children of the Night at any given time has sometimes 2/3 of her clients being

from Nevada. A service for which she is rarely paid from what she's reported to me.

For another – I've written out a complete, and utterly free, “outpatient” program we could offer not

only the young females in this judge's courtroom – but also their parents as we have a parents group

available – and also that we could offer the males that don't even go through his court room. This

program was put together with a list of therapists who offered these kids free therapy through this

program I wrote out, it offered sponsorship through the local AA and NA groups, and of course offered

these girls two meetings a week of SWA as well as a list of sponsors we had available who all had more

than five years in recovery that would have been excellent sponsors for these young girls. I then

watched as this judge refused to even speak to me about this offer of assistance to all of the girls

coming through this courtroom – while a week later he gave a fund raising speech for a residential

program he wanted to build that would only have housed 14 girls. He sees more than that many girls a

day in his court room – so how this would help all of the prostitutes was beyond my understanding.

But it clearly wasn't about giving them help – it was obviously about raising money for a “safe house”.

I've even see totally “fake” news releases about programs opening up that don't even exist as part of

some of these people trying to raise money. In January of 2012, I read a news report about a “safe

house” opening up for adult female trafficking victims in Las Vegas. I had just received a call from a

woman who had just left her pimp of 10 years and needing shelter until I could get her into another

program I knew of that worked with prostitutes out of state – so I contacted this group to see about

placing this woman there. Only I find out the whole report was false and that there was no house and

nothing had opened. Within days, the website was down, the phones were disconnected, the emails

were coming back – and when I finally was able to track someone down about what happened – I was

told that the house had only been “reported” as being opened in order to “raise money” to get the house

“opened”. When I asked who was being wanting this house opened in Nevada – I've never even heard

of these people before and certainly knew they didn't have any experience working with trafficking

victims in Nevada before – or anywhere for that matter. When I asked what happened to the money

people donated to this house if it didn't even open – they then stopped speaking to me.

I've even seen a legal brothel owner jumping on this “trafficking” bandwagon! One of these men gave

a press release a few years ago about how he was opening up a program to “fight trafficking” and get

“illegal prostitutes” off the streets. If he wanted to accomplish this goal – I was willing to work with

him and see what we could accomplish together. So I contacted him only to find out from his press

agent that the whole thing was basically because he was trying to put on a “good front” for a vote that

had been going up to the local city counsel the next week and that he had no intention of doing

anything he said he was going to do in that press release. That's why I said if it's not about money with

some of these people – then it's about power.

That sounds no different than another brothel owner here in Nevada that has told me he won't donate

any money to help us help trafficking victims to escape the state because he'd rather I take them up to

his place for shelter where he can “get a good look at them” and see if they could “come to work for

him”. I pointed out to him that most victims we get calls from probably couldn't qualify for one of the

local brothel licenses and that this would be a waste of his time and ours – but he countered with how

13

he knew how to “get around” the licensing requirements for “new girls”. He knows good and well that

the women leaving his brothel either return back to him because they “can't make it on their own” as

we just saw recently with Air Force Amy returning to him with her tail between her legs as announced

on their site – or they wind up in horrible situations because they're not able to find exiting help such as

with Brooke's horrible death while she was even pregnant because she hadn't received any support from

a program like ours when she left. Yet they still continue to refuse to provide these with with our

contact number when they leave as a rule – because they don't want them to succeeed in leaving.

Up unti l995 – all states and TV stations, newspapers, magazines and radio stations were required to

run public service announcements for free in order to keep their operating license. What this meant

was that we used to be able to get free advertising late at night – which is exactly when most people

would want to get our phone number anyway.

After 1995 – the FCC lifted this requirement and now we're required to pay for all advertising. I can't

go on talk shows anymore to let people know about our program because I have a daughter now and a

family who have requested me not to be a “public figure” so that they can live in peace in this state

without worrying about any backlash, threats, harassment, or embarrassment. Based on what happened

to me in the 2007 press conference – I'm not about to go back on TV any time soon.

There is a way however to do something to help these victims find help by someone who is trying to

offer them help through an established, proven and effective program where I have clipping after

clipping of members talking about how we've helped them over the years as well as many of them who

are talking about their recovery through a radio program we've been producing lately which you can

can find at www.traffickingandprostitutionservices.org

Nevada is full of sex related businesses where trafficking victims often start out at, wind up coming

through, or work at in some fashion at some point where they might find they are in trouble and they

need help. The whole state is full of strip clubs, massage parlors, adult stores, and even legal brothels.

Most of these businesses require that the employees get a license of some kind to work in these

establishments.

I'm in the process of producing an educational video that I've been asked to produce for a couple of

their states at this very moment. This same video could be used here in Nevada. The video could be

played for anyone applying for a license in one of these sex related, or even sexual, businesses where

trafficking might be seen, or experienced. It would explain what trafficking is, and also what can be

offered them in the way of exit and restoration services should they find they have a problem.

They could then be given a list of phone numbers and/or websites. I'd like to propose that Sex Workers

Anonymous be among one of those offered. Children of the Night should be offered because while

many of these companies say they do not hire minors – often they do hear or see minors who are being

trafficked that they could report if they knew who to call. Children of the Night runs a very respectable

and established hotline that is the “gold standard” of trafficking hotlines for minors. The National

Trafficking Hotline is another one.

Since these people often don't keep these phone numbers – they should be asked to memorize these

groups' names so they can call 411 at any time in the future and locate them for help. Then a short test

can be given where they're to repeat back the names of these hotlines so that we are sure they know

14

how to find them for help if the time comes that they do. They might not keep the numbers – but if

they know them by “heart” they can find us when they need us by process of taking this test.

A small nominal fee could be paid for these licensee applicants. This fee could cover the

administration of this workshop and test. If you listen to our Reno survivor's story on the radio show –

you'll know that the question about “are you being forced” on their application is a joke. It's like

asking at the airport “are you now carrying a bomb”? It's ridiculous.

For years and years the brothel owners have been pushing to pay a sales tax. I propose that the brothel

owners pay a percentage of what they make to go into a fund to help people exit out of sex work

entirely. Because here's what's happening to the state's budget right now as we speak. When a woman

is done working at the brothel – they need “exit” services. They need treatment for one thing. They

usually can't get a “normal” job for a long time after leaving the brothels. Which means they will either

continue to work as an illegal prostitute – they will go into drugs like the famous case of Brooke

Phillips who got involved in guns and drugs and wound up murdered just months after leaving one of

the brothels in Nevada, or they will simply go on SSI and/or welfare to live off the state until they can

find another type of work to go into. So right now – when a woman leaves the brothel – these exit

costs are falling onto the state already.

They say if you expand the brothels and allow them to pay taxes that Nevada wins. That's not true

because for every sales dollars you'd receive from another woman working for them – you'd have three

times as much money cost to this system through things like ER visits, domestic violence, drug

addiction, SSI, criminal behavior, foster care for their children when they're incarcerated, CPS services,

social services and 1,000 other things these women cost the state once the brothels are done with them

and then they leave – to go where? Right here where then the state has to deal with the burned out

leftovers who aren't good for anything at that point – without proper intervention and treatment.

Things that they aren't paying into for either.

Not just the costs of SSI and/or welfare, and maybe free mental health services either. But since many

continue on with some kind of illegal activity after leaving them whether that be illegal prostitution or

illegal drug activities – then they find themselves arrested. Many of these arrests cost the taxpayers

money – but also if they have children who go into foster care of some kind that also costs the system

even more money.

For example, Heidi Fleiss has gone on to have more than one drug arrest since her arrest in California

for being a madam. Yes she was a madam in California – but my point about how these people go on

after sex work to engage in other criminal activities – and cost the state of Nevada even more taxpayer

money because they haven't had a proper exit program set up for them is still true in this case. Her

probation officer in Pahrump did not order her to go to Sex Workers Anonymous meetings when she

was arrested – so she has gone on to fail her drug treatment at Celebrity Rehab, announce that she's

getting ready to open an “Alien Brothel” with Dennis, while she probably scams more investors like

she did over her “stud ranch” investment scheme, she's had countless arrests for fraud, drug problems,

and she's engaging in criminal behavior right now as we speak – all at a cost to the taxpayers which

could have possibly been avoided if she'd simply been referrred to our program by her PO.

I've recorded one interview from a woman who tells you how coming out of the legal brothels on our

radio show “Stop Sex Traffick Talk” she became a burden on the taxpayers money by not receiving any

15

proper help for coming out of sex work and being a trafficking victim that she could have received if

she'd been given a number to call which would have referred her to the proper help at the time she

obtained her license to work as a prostitute in the brothel. She wound up being arrested, having to go

through the Mental House Court, and also cost the taxpayers money because of having a daughter

while this was going on.

I've contacted the mental health court who admits that most of their clients are coming out of

prostitution. Yet when I've offered them free training in how to help this community, and to give the

Subject: Sex Trafficking

Dear John:

I've told you in the past that (1) the previous Assemblyman, Bob Beers, who backed up the work we were doing on behalf of Nevada trafficking victims had received death threats, and also been falsely "set up" by the RJ to lose his seat under trumped up false ethics charges because he was trying to help not only the victims, word to get out in the media because the RJ was refusing to print anything about this issue, and also because he was in discussion with the various licensing boards about taking our suggestion about changing the licensing process for brothels, strip clubs, massage parlors, outcall services, etc., to the point where he's completely withdrawn even discussing this subject with anyone, and (2) that I've received death threats from people such as Metro Officers, even a local FBI agent, the assistant Attorney General to Daniel Bogden, brothel owners, business owners who support the expansion of brothels into Las Vegas, as well as other types of threats, retaliations, attacks, tire slashings, my whole car demolished right after the 2007 press conference about trafficking in Nevada, etc.

I've received notices about various trafficking events going on in Vegas - many of which I've been also notified that many Metro officers will be in attendance at such events. Some of these Metro officers, and other officials, are "backing up" or even outright involved with local pimps and traffickers - some of who have actually made prostitutes and madams disappear entirely. Pimps who are still out there "operating" today.

So that I, and other survivors of Nevada trafficking, could attend these events (we certainly haven't been invited to speak, help organize, or participate in any way) , we've tried asking people "who" would be attending so we could determine if it would be safe for us to come in and out of these events physically. Our requests for information as to the guest lists have always been ignored - so I've tried asking you if you, or someone else who is attending these events, could possibly come and pick me up and take me so that I'd be provided with someone who would be a "witness" and/or someone whose presence with me at least would deter anyone from attempting to come up and make any other threats or even attacks. Each one of my requests to you, and others, have been completely ignored - or responded to with a flip "see you there" sent to me just hours before these events - certainly not enough time for me to arrange any type of security and/or protection nor even to schedule the paratransit I'm currently on through which I have to schedule all rides at least 24 hours in advance and before 5:00 p.m.

Prior to Saturday, February 10th, I've sent you more than one request to speak to you about the trafficking bills - as well as even your "john" bill. I've told you that I not only have experience in these areas from other states where I've been involved in this process - but also that I have experience in not only creating programs that deter prostitution in general - but that also help a "john" to stop frequenting strip clubs, prostitutes, brothels, etc. I've offered to speak to you on the phone, go to coffee, etc., all on more than one occasion since I moved to Las Vegas two years ago. Not one of those requests have been responded to - and I've kept every email, facebook, etc., to verify that you have not responded in the positive in any fashion. There's no voice mails or phone calls that have been made to me accepting my invitations to you previously to discuss these issues with you.

Things like how the trafficking bill in California was rejected over "poor wording" - which is another claim that's going up right now about your bill proposal made Monday. An attack against the bill that might not have been made if you had agreed to meet with me and discuss this beforehand so I could have gone over with you how previous bills in other states have been rejected over poor wording.

Yes you agreed to do the radio show interview on Sunday morning - which was only hours away from Monday's legislature meeting and not in enough time for me to have discussed these other items with you in time for something constructive to have been added before you went up there. By doing the show on Sunday - this would not have given us any time to send the show out to those who would have been there, or who might have shown up, to generate any more support from anyone using our Facebook, blog, etc.

While you agreed to do the show - you still did not agree to meet with me to discuss the trafficking bill, or your bill on "john's". I waited to see if you would say anything about our trafficking survivor who bravely came forward to this meeting to discuss what happened to her, and what needs to be done to help these victims - and to help them find access to existing services that are there already to help them on your Facebook page - but you said nothing.

There doesn't need to be any fund raisers in order to get victims help through existing programs such as Sex Workers Anonymous or Children of the Night which were founded in 1987. I MOVED HERE IN 1996 in order to be able to work directly with trafficking victims in Nevada. I'm the one who organized the victims and the research that went into the first ever report on Trafficking in Nevada in 2007. I was doing this work since before you were even an Assemblyman. I would think you'd not only have wanted to know what we're doing before even drafting a bill regarding adult trafficking victims, hear from us about what's needed to help these victims, and even discuss with us the services we have been providing to local and national victims to call yourself "informed" on this issue even. Knowing about trafficking in other countries - does not count when you're talking about Nevada services to Nevada victims using Nevada's voters and Nevada's taxpayers' money.

All work that's been unpaid for, donated to, even by you. You haven't even donated $1.00 despite the request for help when we were trying to pay for the hotel bill for a victim that got stuck a few days in a hotel before a bed was open to her in a treatment program we arranged to get her into. Which is another thing we do - when they need drug treatment we have connections and "scholarships" all over the USA with people who do hire ex-sex workers and have received training and do have experience helping trafficking victims to get clean from the drugs the pimps force them on to control them easier.

You've got "time" John. I've seen you at the potluck. I've seen you at a parade you even got a pastor to donate $300 to organize that provided no direct services to victims. I've seen you at the library, the luncheons, the documentary viewings, the fund raisers, and 100 other little events that are geared to raise money for groups that do not provide any "direct services" to Nevada victims. So you seem to be able to donate money, fund raising skills, and time to all these other groups. Other groups that I've documented by calling them and asking them to help with specific cases we've been working on in Nevada over the years - and that they've refused to help.

Do you realize that each time we've had a victim that required local "safe housing" until we could get them from the pimp into a program out of state where they would get treatment provided to them that's effective, and free, and costs the taxpayers nothing, and has been working for decades as we have members now we've helped who have gone on to get degrees and work at places like these now - I've called up places like Hookers for Jesus, the Dream Center, etc., and they won't even return my phone calls or emails to help a real live breathing local victim?

Maybe because a lot of it is a sham. I read the RJ news article about the Dream Center and Hookers for Jesus opening up a "safe house" for adult victims. They claimed to have "therapists on staff" who were "trained" to treat this issue back in January of 2012. I had a victim who I had actually negotiated with her pimp to let her go into my custody at the request of her mother who called me for help - but then we had to get her from the pimp's house into a program we'd arranged to get her into that works exclusively with trafficking victims, that was started by a recovering SWA member, and is staffed by ex-trafficking victims that was offering her a six month long treatment program for free.

As you also know - I had a stroke which put me out of work and onto SSI. I make $710 a month. That's it - zip $710 a month. I didn't have money to pay for this woman a hotel for the night. Her mother was also on SSI and was retired - and out of state. The victim didn't have any money - I'd just arranged for the pimp to "kick her loose". She didn't even have any ID which meant I'd even have had to rent the hotel room for her. As it was, I was having to go and pick this woman up on the bus! I couldn't wait for paratransit - so I had to come on bus to pick this woman up. I thought "great I can put her in to this program" here locally and called them up. Only I find out their "therapists" were "pastoral counselors" who when I questioned them were not licensed therapists, addictions counselors, nor had they received one hour of specific training in how to treat a severely traumatized brand new trafficking victim. I also found out the whole press release about this house "opening" was also a sham - nothing had been opened. When I asked what happened to the money I know people donated to open this house - they slammed down the phone on me, shut down their websites, yanked the news clipping, and then refused to take any more of my calls.

Do you know that a local brothel owner made a press conference announcement that he was "fighting trafficking"? He put together a "task force" and said he was dedicating his efforts, and his money, to fight trafficking. Yeah right - he just wants the "illegal" prostitutes that are his competition arrested and taken off the streets. Any other "victims" he comes across - he's putting to work in his brothel. That's not exactly my idea of "helping trafficking victims" - is it yours? I know that he's operating all kinds of functions, and attending all of these trafficking functions - and making large donations to political campaigns - up to $20,000 the last time I read about him.

We even now have Lance Malone, a brothel owner, who has just been elected to the City Commission of Nevada. So I know good and well that Nevada is full of politicians, business owners, and all sorts of "fronts" for the traffickers that are claiming with one hand to be trying to "fight" trafficking - while in reality they are doing everything they can to stop the real victims from finding their way to real services that will help them and not call that help recruiting them to work for their brothels!

I also know for a fact that the Salvation Army does not provide services to any males, transgenders, or Jewish or Buddhist victims. I know they've actually kicked out two women - one for being lesbian, and the other for being Buddhist. Two women that were able to find me only because someone did know about us because the SA gave them no referrals to us when they kicked them out - nor made any arrangements for them to speak to any of us before they kicked them out.

Years ago - the Salvation Army was making people who attended Narcotics Anonymous meetings there on their premises take a breathalyzer test. This is a complete and total violation of NA's Traditions. There is only ONE requirement for membership - and that's a "desire to quit using". There is no such requirement that you have to pass a breathalyzer test. But I also know they had to "say" they were holding NA meetings on their premises in order to keep their license to operate. The problem was their insurance company required the breathalyzer test in order to admit anyone. That's fine if their insurance requires this in order to admit anyone - but then you should not be having an "open" meeting of NA listed in the directory where someone is going to be refused entrance in the NA meeting if they can't pass the breathalyzer test.

So I went to NA and informed them this was happening - and I also knew for a fact that there were people who were so upset at being refused entrance into the meeting because of the breathalyser test - they were going out to use being upset and blaming NA for this. When NA found out about it - they shut the meeting down. Ever since I did this - the Salvation Army put out a "ban" that I was not allowed to even go onto their premises anymore. Which was a shame because prior to that time I was coming in once a month to speak to the addicts for NA and once a month to speak to the prostitutes for Sex Workers Anonymous. So in retaliation for what I did - they banned me from the premises. Which frankly- all they had to do was when I approached them about this breathalyzer test - all they had to do was agree to remove the meeting from the directory of "open" meeting and/or post on the directory about the breathalyzer test being required there. But they refused to negotiate with me - leaving me no choice but to go to NA's region and have the meeting yanked. People could die from what they were doing - I had no choice.

They've also been hiring people to work with the prostitutes there that are not survivors, and they have no training in how to work with victims. I've offered to give them free trainings - yet they refuse. That's not my problem either. They've refused the offer of free training - because they say they'll still have to "pay" for the staff to attend the training. Then they tell me they'll have to write a grant and/or get donations in order to allow them to attend a free training.

Which is baloney. They've received approximately $30,000 from the Southern Nevada Sex Trafficking Task Force to be providing services to trafficking victims. If that means they can't find the way to attend a free training - then it's purely and simply because it's all about money. It's also because they don't want to draw attention to the people they are denying services to at the gate, or even kicking them out of the program. They know good and well these victims aren't going to file any class actions lawsuits because they don't want to be named in the media as being a victim.

The problem with their thinking John is this is all going to be a repeat of what happened in California when I went through the same treatment by them. They refused to work with us back in the 1980's. They got all this grant money together and programs together - and they FAILED. The governor then found out they were having a 98% failure rate - and said if they didn't get their numbers up within the next year he was going to cut all their funding. They still refused to listen - and he cut 95 % of the funding. Now all of sudden they're listening - and I spent two years going around consulting and training these programs and outreaches and therapists out there in Los Angeles. And guess what? They got their numbers up to an 80% success rate - and they're still getting funding and they're still operating today!

California refused to talk to me and/or Lois Lee from Children of the Night about their recent push to make a trafficking bill. As a result - it got kicked out and sent back for "rewording". Right now President Obama has been pulling away from pushing for federal trafficking laws to be passed - because programs like ATLAS that came here in 2007 with over $870,000 in government funding failed to produce one victim. Not one after a year. That was the same year we processed over 300 victims - and I have emails where they also refused to help me with any cases. Right now - has the Southern Nevada Sex Trafficking Task Force produced one victim they've rescued and is in a program today? Nope. They won't even return my calls - so how am I able to even give them a victim to work with?

If people like you don't start talking to people like us that know what we're talking about, and know what "works" for these victims - so you can produce bills that won't be torn apart, and start producing victims who will talk about how this program "saved them" like we are - you're going to wind up with nothing but wasted effort, no victims helped, and you might even wind up in the middle of a big investigation because I'm frankly smelling something fishy going on with the money here.

All you've done by not even mentioning our name, or the victim who spoke to you up there, is just "proved" what we're claiming in our letter is true and it's happening. I've been recovering from my stroke. I'm stronger now. I'm getting my fight back. I'm not taking this anymore John. Not when I have the lives of our victims and members who are having genocide being practiced on them - because people are out "raising awareness" and doing "fund raisers" - but not doing what it takes for them to find the help they need, and that works, right here and right now. A lie is a lie whether it's an outright lie - or an omission.

It's because people like yourself have been ignoring us, and making it so that victims aren't getting referrals to programs like ours, or Children of the Night out

of Judge Voy's courtroom - which is killing them John! I'm bringing the national media into this - and if I get pushed much further I'm going to call for an investigation to see if you or Catherine Cortez Masto have been receiving bribe money from the brothels. Because otherwise I just don't understand why this is happening.

I'd like to discuss with you how to change your bill so that the wording doesn't get thrown out - and so that it's something that helps victims like you met on Monday. And if you don't start talking to me about this now - off the record and between us - the next thing you're going to find happening is me organizing sex workers to organize public protests about this type of treatment that is killing them if they don't get access to existing services!

Now if you don't want to talk to me directly because I am obviously very passionate about this - you can talk to Amy. She has said she's willing to come forward and speak to you. Let me know. But since I've been a paralegal for 40 years, and since I've also been watching what's been going on in the legislature of other states about trafficking, and with my experience also working with helping "john's" I am an excellent resource - but I can also give her information to give you too.

In the meantime, I'll organize a time for you to come on the radio show and you can discuss what you're going to do about changing the wording with me. I'd also like you to discuss what you're going to do to incorporate our suggestions so we don't have to resort to things like public protests to get our message across. There's nothing the national media loves more than sex workers on parade or strike! Since I've told you I don't normally wake up until after noon because I'm answering our hotline until at least 4:00 a.m. most days - I'd like to schedule our radio interview for sometime after noon. I have access to an office here on Thursdays where I have a good internet connection and can record you then. If you have a webcam - I'd like to record you doing the interview by webcam. I can post it on our site, blog, facebook, etc.

I'd like to make this as just something you're "fixing" now and let's get you on the show and on the road here!

Sincerely,

Jody Williams

Proof Nevada is Denying Existing Services for Sex Trafficking Victims based on being gay, lesbian, bi, transgender, and religious reasons - and to raise millions of dollars

Dear Huffington Post:

We know that you print news concerning the gay community, as well as about the sex trafficking problem within the USA. On Monday, February 11, 2013, Trafficking and Prostitution Services wrote a letter charging that sex trafficking victims are being either denied existing services to assist them, or even being rejected from existing services, based on them being male, gay, bi, lesbian, transgender, and because of religious descrimination.

A member of one of these existing programs, Sex Workers Anonymous, was there when the letter was presented, and read, by the Attorney General, and everyone there at the legislature, charging this, talking about existing programs and services that are available now at no cost to the victim or the state, and presenting solutions offered by sex trafficking victims as to what they believe will "work" to do something to either/or prevent victims from being taken advantage of, and/or solutions to help victims to get access to these services once they are either victims or hear of any victims needing help.

The next day, the Review Journal printed this story. http://www.lvrj.com/news/new-bill-aims-to-break-ties-between-pimps-prostitutes-190775331.html John Hambrick, the Assemblyman who wrote this bill, and who spoke to this victim directly and personally, and who was present when this letter was read, wrote this on his page about the event. https://www.facebook.com/#!/jhambrick

They have been known to take down news and listings once I start complaining straight out of 1984 - so I've attached screen shots I've learned to save showing you what was on the internet as of February 13, 2013.

You'll note that there is not one mention about this brave survivor who came forward to speak, the letter, Sex Workers Anonymous or Trafficking and Prostitution Services (if they wanted to respect our anonymity) or Children of the Night. Further, the RJ goes on to say that the Attorney General claimed that "there's no existing services", and that "we need to raise money to get services as nothing exists" and to put together an "advocate" for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. I've been in contact with someone from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children for years now - and have been working with them to improve their system to both retrieve missing victims, as well as provide the proper treatment to victims, all without an official title or payment I should add.

In other words - they did exactly what this letter from us is claiming they are doing to us - and in the process this is denying services that do exist to trafficking victims who are male, gay, transgender, and of other, or no, religious faith. I'm also sending under separate cover an announcement that we receive about these trafficking events in Nevada from the Attorney General's office. I would like you to note that the heading is addressed "To All Faith Based Leaders". There is a concept of "separation of church and state" - especially when there's government money involved - and this right here is a perfect example of why.

I've personally gone in the middle of the night more than once to pick up sex trafficking victims who have been kicked out of the Salvation Army shelter because they were (1) lesbian, (2) Buddhist - a shelter which has received both federal and state money as well as private donations to be helping trafficking victims. Further - this shelter provides no access to services to male, gay and/or transgender victims of trafficking either - and when they are kicking the victims out of these programs - they are not only not providing them with referrals to existing programs like ours - they won't even let us in to work with their victims despite the fact we have been providing effective recovery services to these victims since 1987 across the nation successfully.

You've just witnessed it for yourself - that they're doing what we charge their doing. It needs to be stopped and we need you help to get the word out it's being done so that victims can find help through existing programs that do offer services to anyone such as Sex Workers Anonymous, Trafficking and Prostitution Services and Children of the Night (who provides services to those who are under the age of 18 who are also gay, transgender, and with no religious restrictions).

We are not the only ones experiencing this. Any victim will be put on a plane free of charge to go to Children of the Night. In fact almost 2/3 of their victims at different times have been out of Nevada - yet they do not charge, nor have they received, any state money from Nevada, nor any of this donation money from private donors who have donated to help these victims.

I do not get paid for our work. Never have and can't because Sex Workers Anonymous does not have "paid" workers anymore than Alcoholics Anonymous does. I don't have time to go around the state and do all these organized fund raisers that is siphoning money out from the help I have been able to network in the past. Mostly because I'm too busy working with the victims!

How is this my problem? In the past, I used to be able to call up local churches, synagogues, temples, monestaries, etc., and when we've needed help to buy a bus or plane ticket to get an adult victim into a program or services, or for a hotel because they called at 2:00 a.m. and I can't reach anyone to coordinate their services until morning, or to get transportation to pick them up from the brothel, strip club, massage parlor, etc., to get them to safety - I've been able to get the help we needed in the past.

Now when I try to get help to work a case - I'm being told "we just gave" to all these other "organized" programs that have straight up refused to provide me with any help when I've called them for help with specific cases that have required cash assistance of some kind. That's when I can get them to talk to me - because most of them either ignore my phone calls and emails entirely or they'll just call me to "blow me off". I'd even had victims try and call them directly to get access to emergency services - only to have them ignored as well. So for all the money they are getting - they're not providing the services they're telling donors and grantors they're supposed to be providing. Nor are they networking with existing services to see victims get help either. I do have proof these programs are refusing to cooperate or connect with our programs in any fashion as I've saved every email, phone log and conversation to document this fact.

We've been emailing, faxing and calling the Attorney General for months here trying to let her know about our services - only to be completely ignored. We do have one email from her assistant that claimed "we're not working on any bill regarding prostitution" however. Isn't trafficking about prostitution? Despite even sending a member to the legislature floor with a letter on behalf of all of the Nevada victims who had suggestions for her, reached out to her, and tried to let her know about existing services - we not only received no mention in her statements to the press - nor any mention in the press itself - but she did not call us to inquire about any of these services either since the event either by email or telephone. Why? Well her words are that "money needs to be raised" because "nothing exists". Well we now have proof we've informed her of services that do exist - and proof that she went on to deny this fact publicly and in the media.

Could this have something to do with the brothels only 7 miles outside of town? Our victim told her about point blank trafficking that she experienced right in the local legal brothel - along with our letter outlining what can be done to help future victims. When this victim asked her point blank about our suggestion and what can be done about this right now - she refused to answer her.

Now we know for a fact that the local papers won't run stories about us because they fear the loss of ad dollars from the brothels, the escort services, the strip clubs, and the massage parlors. We know this because that's what they have told us to our face. They'd lose millions of dollars in ad money if they printed a story about our work and what we're doing to help Nevada victims.

Attorney General Daniel Bogden used to have no problem arresting big time traffickers as evidenced by his "G Sting" arrests and others that we've seen break up many trafficking rings in Nevada against very "big time bad" mobsters. We also used to have no such problem getting our word and services information out when Daniel Bogden was Attorney General. Yet we can't even get a phone call or email from Catherine Cortez Masto - despite working with trafficking victims in Nevada currently. She's even denying we exist despite one of our members being right on the legislature floor on Monday. You tell me why?

What about these donations she's referring to that she "won't disclose who they are". We sure aren't seeing any of that money either despite actually providing services to Nevadan victims - so you tell me what's up with her. Could it be these "donors" are from the local brothel owners? Sure they're against - on paper. If they were "really" against it - they'd have taken me up on my offer to provide flyers to the women in the brothels for free for years now so they can access our services when they either need help with trafficking - or they want to quit the sex trade and need support. I also document they've been refusing to let me offer this information to their employees for years now.

This is why I'm reaching out to the national media to bring attention to this - and so that ALL victims can find access to help they desperately need.

Thank you for listening.
